Although that is positive, what is not stated there was that CBJ was not interested in Michigan and was not going to Michigan.

Butch Jones has an agent. His agent knows any interest by anyone else is a ticket to a raise. It's a delicate balance between being overeager and apathetic. You want a raise; you don't want to hurt recruiting. There is no reason for anyone to panic.

UT/Meeechigan situations over the last decade have been difficult to comprehend. My non-expert opinion is that UT's is well on its way to being resolved. Not so much for Meeechigan. Both schools hired a highly regarded coach from a school that was a step or so down. However, Butch went long term while Brady went short term. Butch did not adapt his system to his roster and immediately and started recruiting to the system's needs. Brady adapted his system to his roster to get better results in the W column to satisfy the fan base, which sent a mixed signal to the potential recruits. Result: Butch is blowing Brady out in recruiting, which will obviously resulting in a much brighter long term picture for our Vols.

Had Butch adapted like Brady last and this season, the W's would have been enough to ensure bowl games IMO. Instead he stuck to his process, which a few of us on here believe was the deal he cut with Hart during the original interview/discussions. Speaking of grassy knolls, this extends to who plays and when, which has been very obvious and is why you get Butchspeak when it comes to not announcing to the world a player's medical condition, who is really better at a position, etc. Not really much of a conspiracy actually, every program needs sacrificial lambs and scapegoats when the new master takes over. It's just smart business. Hart and Butch are very smart businessmen. What Butch did not calculate correctly was the deeper understanding of what it takes to win in the SEC that the other participants, the fans and the media possess. He has been busy getting a better handle on that of late.

Announcing medical conditions? Really? You really think that's even worth mentioning as a factor in coaching success? And Hoke recruited every bit as good as Butch his first two years, just never produced Ws, so recruiting declined. Adapting systems or not has 0 to do with either having recruiting success. Same thing will happen to Butch next year if he doesn't produce Ws, recruiting will decline.

So far, they have been much more similar than different, other than Hoke having a winning record.

Too late for that.

Matt Darr is having a quality senior season. He has punted 52 times this year for nearly a 42 yard average. 11 of those punts have went for 50 or more yards, including his career best, 61 yarder. 20 of those punts have been downed inside the 20. And 23 of those punts have resulted in fair catch signals.

Here's the thing about the Michigan job that scares me: if they want Butch (one would assume he's around 5th on their list) and they strike out with others, you know they'll offer him a ton of money.

And as you know, our cheap athletic department isn't going to match. If they wanted to spend money on a football coach we wouldn't have Butch Jones here in the first place.

Butch may love it here, I don't doubt that at all. But if he has a chance to go home, to a program that is historically just as good (if not better) than UT, and get a significant pay raise in the process, this one's over.

I would definitely see Butch as 3-5 on their list.

Homerun offer to Harbaugh (their Gruden) Denied

Look at Mullen/Miles-Mullen will go to Florida, Miles might be the guy

Butch falls in this range which is scary because those guys ahead very well could all turn them down.

There's only one Tennessee but there's only one place you call home.

I would rather he hadn't had to punt at all and we just score TDs or FGs on every drive.

Soon....

This is the most Tennessee scenario that could happen, so good chance it does.

I work with a doc who is a Penn State grad. He is claiming Franklin's little games are growing tiresome on the fan base already. Said he came in a demanded new facilities and was told "we just built everything new". Demanded a jet for recruiting "you have 2 to chose from".

Said he is hearing Florida is loading up for JF and he is making it known to administration.

That didn't take long.

Franklin at Florida would suck for the rest of the SEC.

Doubtful. Agent speak right there.

Honestly, I would be more concerned with Butch leaving if UT had won 8 or more games this year. Next year is probably when Hart will have to give Butch an extension/pay raise. Things will start getting real next year! JMO
