One thing is certain. No one will ever convince me this run game can be executed without the threat of a running QB

Don't need a fast qb, just one who is willing or allowed to keep it a few times, even for no gain, to keep the defense guessing.

Surprised with how elusive Dobbs is. He doesn't strike you as a super athletic mobile QB, but even dating back to last year he's shown plenty of signs he can make people miss when he tucks it and runs.

Underrated speed too.

Ya he can move, has decent awareness of the rush too. Much prefer a fast qb, but Worley was adequately fast enough that if he'd kept a few, the D would have hesitated.

Lol speaking of Worley, I'm legitimately shocked at how bad his awareness is in the pocket.

Dobbs playing like he did last night just cemented the fact that Worley held onto the all way too long all year & doesn't have great ability to flush the pocket and still make plays.

Eh, I disagree. Dobbs maturing along with the O-line will change the landscape as to how this team does moving forward. We needed a mobile QB for the read option and now we have one. Our skill players are as good as anyone else in the country. We are adding Kamara and Preston Williams to an already lethal group of WRs and RBs. The defense is there. Again, need some more seasoning. We add a couple of high level DTs next year as well. I'm all for cautious optimism, but the only thing holding us back this year has been our offensive woes. We were an O-line away from coming into last night's game at 5-2. We aren't as far away as some of you are suggesting.

I don't think we're that far away either and I think we'll be vastly improved. I think it takes more than one year to fix our line problems and I think our schedule is still too difficult to make a significant jump in the win column. I'm not disparaged by the pace of this rebuild either. I thought it was at least a four year, maybe five year project.

Different opponents bring different sets of circumstances, but I agree with this about Worley.

Completely amazed at the performance of the OL with Dobbs in the game.

1) he knows how to avoid taking a sack, so that helps

2) the push they were getting in the run game was surprising and unlike anything we have seen all year

They've gotten good push on downhill runs all year..... Our staff is crazy at times.....

Not to be that guy, but I did notice quite a few odd ball spots last night during the game. I figured a few of them would be reviewed, because they were big plays in the game. One was the dive for the first down by the Bama qb, he looked like he put his arm down almost two yards short of where they marked the ball and no hint of a review.

Joey Kent said on the radio in Nashville today that Nathan Peterman is dominant in practice.

It's not translating to live game.

The Dobbs question about him starting this game. I really believe this was a last ditch effort to keep the redshirt intact. If the light comes on for Peterman, he stays in the game.

We witnessed the opposite.

Y'all need to look back at this teams progress. We are on track. I really like our chances in the remaining games.

7-5

Have to disagree here; Win out and this team is gonna destroy somebody in a bowl...

So 8-5 :)

Yeah and the refs did nothing to stop the abuse of Cooper going 80 yds for the TD play 1.

What's the SEC get paid if two SEC teams make the playoffs vs. one?

Do you honestly think you know more than the coaching staff? Bc it comes off that way. If Worley had the ability to run effectively you can be sure that the staff would call keepers for him. Do you not think they would call plays that give them the best chance to win? I don't understand some of you people.

You're right, Dooley and Chaney and Jake and Muschamp and Hoke and every other professional coach have never made bad calls or mistakes, so all their decisions are above second guessing.

Even if other professional coaches and analysts agree that this offense will never work if you don't let the qb keep it occasionally.

Saw Jack Jones and Drew Richmond at Vol Walk, both are impressive looking young men. Have one need the other. Also, sat next to a teammate of Dylan Jackson and got to see Dylan up close.

I was actually surprised by his intensity and vocality.

All of this plus his decision making on the zone read was quick. The reads with Worley seem to take an eternity. Dobbs reads and then boom, he's off to the races. Very impressed with what Dobbs showed last night.

It's amazing when you look at the options and versatility that the offense had when Dobbs came into the game. It seemed like we attacked downfield and over the middle far more than Worley ever did.

1. Pearson end around after he's set in motion
2. Handoff to Hurd
3. Dobbs keeper up the middle
4. Dobbs roll out looking to hit someone on a slant
5. Dobbs taking off if no one is open on the roll out
6. Dobbs drop back after the fake jet sweep to Pearson

That's what the defense has to take into account every single play with Dobbs in there. You could cut that list in half with Worley in there.

He's a dog, the coaches put him on a leash this past game. For what I have no idea.....

He has proven he can play with anybody, not sure why they went that initial game plan.

All I can think is that they were trying to cover for a perceived weakness with the rest of the secondary. Its a head scratcher for sure.

I agree with you guys, the coaches made some dumb decisions. especially on defense to start the game. We wound up in too big of a hole for our offense to climb out of.

But why do our young players get a pass for making mistakes but not our coaches? (Sure, our coaches are being paid, they coached elsewhere, etc.) But IMO most of our coaching staff, including CBJ, are only "sophomores" in the SEC & they it's obvious that they are making mistakes.

Hopefully they are intelligent enough to learn from their mistakes & will perform better when they are "upperclassmen" in 2015 & 2016. I for one am willing to cut them some slack until then. Go Vols!
