If you were familiar with the Lambuth I remember you would understand the idea of insinuating there were deep pocketed boosters to that school able and willing to shell out that kind of money is somewhat comical. If $2500, a rental house, and all you can eat pass at the China buffet qualifies then I apologize.

I'm very familiar

All I'm saying is it seems funny to me that little ol' Lambuth could come up with secret, "SEC guy" money to throw at an ace coach when the campus and facilities were...dated to say the least. There at the end you couldn't park on campus and leave with a radio in your car. But anything is possible.

AV probably knows better than anyone on this site.

First of all, I don't think he was an actual assistant the first time around at OM, but I would have to check that. I think he was in one of the lower paying positions. Secondly, the poster mentioned coaching at Lambuth. That was not a high school. It was a fledgling NAIA college in Jackson, TN that eventually closed and is now part of the U of M system. I can almost guarantee that he didn't make six figures there. He needed a job after Orgeron was fired. Also, he was also the girls basketball coach at his former high school and before all if this, he was offered an interview for the head women's basketball coach at the University of Memphis. Imagine if he had gotten that job. Just like everyone else in the world, he was simply trying to promote himself anyway possible. You may want to check your facts before making allegations.

You're pretty much on target...I certainly don't want to get in the middle of this fracas but CHF has done nothing but WIN every place he's been....and he's done it again at OM....had a friend that was on staff with him for several years and he says "they worked their proverbial butts off every day"....CHF knows football and knows people....get a little talent....marry the two together....create mismatches and spacing on the field just like he did Saturday night against Moseley on the edge and ...Walla....touchdown...and everyone in the stands who knew a little football could see it coming......oversimplified of course....but CHF knows what he's doing....just like a great surgeon....he's great at it no matter who he's operating on....

lol at thinking an "SEC guy" is gonna work for free...

Think what you want.. Doesn't matter to me.. The guy was paid well

He wasn't an "SEC" guy at that point. He didn't have a job. I don't think the 'free" comment was literal. I just don't believe he was making a whole lot at Lambuth, even if they were trying to revive the program.

He was well paid for a NAIA coach is what he is insinuating. Why this has turned into a "discredit AV, that can't be right" argument is a little ridiculous

I'm not sure who's trying to discredit AV, but I'm not. It very well may be the case he got paid all kinds of secret "SEC guy" cash. I don't know. What I do know is I remember Lambuth and as a result I literally laughed when I read the words "Lambuth Boosters." I didn't mean to hurt anybody's feelings or anything.

Yea, I agree that no one is trying discredit him. I am sure he may be closer to it than many of us.

But, I just find it hard to believe that he was being paid boatloads of money at an NAIA school that was barely making it. I have no doubt that someone other than the program could have put up some money, but the insinuation that he was being hidden and paid by OM boosters or that Lambuth "boosters" were paying him hundreds of thousands is kind of outrageous to me. JMO.

The man is eerily similar to Butch Jones with more faith. He has won everywhere he has been, even as a high school girls basketball coach. This is also coming from someone who lost some respect for him last weekend after his backup was throwing the ball in the endzone with a minute left.

Now, exactly how would you know anything about Butch Jones' faith? Keeping in mind that just because a person may not speak openly about their convictions doesn't mean they don't have any...and the reverse is also true. The world is filled with sanctimonious people especially so in the world of athletics. This was a staggeringly stupid assertion.

I'm a Lambuth alumn. Lambuth folded 4 years ago largely due to not having any money coming from outside sources and boosters.

Hugh Freeze and what happened to the school were 2 different things... It was always a temporary thing, and his salary was never mentioned for a reason.. Like I said, believe what you want...

My Sec guy comment was because of his prior assistant experience

You like to stir the pot, don't you? My comment was not a knock on Butch Jones. I guess I need to spell everything out for you. Because most people don't care to read long posts with minute details, it was simply a way to describe the difference between the two. But, yes, there are people who are more faithful because they openly talk about it. Most people only talk about things that they are comfortable with. Maybe you should read more about people. Butch Jones has core values, and I love him as our coach. I haven't read much about his faith, but he is a classy guy, and it doesn't really matter to me. So, what seems to be the problem?

I totally agree with you. I was at lambuth while he was there and he was definitely getting paid by outside sources. I was just explaining why the lambuth booster comment can be considered funny.

But I will say the football program and what happened to the school are not separate issues. There is a strong link to how the AD was run and the lack of good business decisions at that school
