I hear what you are saying. Its the trust the process meme. But we really haven't seen a down hill running game called. It might be stuffed. But we don't know. Certain speculation about what one thinks wont work is one thing, trying something different another.
Just read this and was amazed:
The third-ranked Rebels punted eight consecutive times (including six 3-and-outs) to start the game against the Vols.
I might be in the minority here, but I think Dobbs will turn out to be a pretty good QB for us. At least Dobbs will be able to use his feet to break the pressure from the opposing D when necessary. That being said, the OL will be somewhat improved, maybe not perfect, but serviceable.
I hope so as well. If not, it definitely will not be for a lack of effort on his part. It just seems like the ones who turn out to be really good show themselves sooner rather than later, like the Fr QB for Clemson. As far as the OL, one can only hope that they will be better with another year of weights and playing together.
I think their general concept of running is the zone blocking where the runner is looking for the hole as the play develops. It can still be a power downhill running attack. That's what the Packers run with Eddie Lacy. Hurd can be that power runner too at 230 lbs. we already see him running through arm tackles. Right now though our OL does not open holes consistently so most of the time the RB has nowhere to go. Hurd does a great job at making something out of usually nothing. Just wait til we have people actually opening holes for him. He will be getting to the second and third level a lot. Hundred yard games will be the norm.
