By my count, in the first 3 quarters of the UTC game, UT went to a 2 TE set 4 times.
Three times we were in the traditional 2 tight end set. We didn't fair much better running the ball, we did get a first down on third and one, though it was due to 2nd effort by the RB.
The other time, we lined up with a TE on the line and the other as an H-Back and ran a reverse, gained a few yards.
Of the TE's that played in the game #48 seemed to give great effort trying to block with mixed results. The other guys, the freshmen, yeah...even Belichick would have a hard time getting those guys up to snuff in the time frame this staff has had with them.
You're also either forgetting or ignoring the difference between game planning in the NFL compared to college. Lining Gronk up anywhere you want is the result of being in the system for a long time, it's just another formation for them. They might not run a play they ran in week one again for two years or they might run a play four times in a game out of four different formations. That kind of stuff is hard to do at the college level.
