Apparently we attempted a rescue mission in Syria to save these two guys, but something fell through. Details just now emerging.

Edit: CNN reporting that we attempted a rescue inside Syria either this summer or the past one (I didn't quite understand her phrasing). When special ops got there, the two Americans had been moved. I guess they either couldn't locate them again or deemed it too dangerous afterwards.

8 months ago he referred to them as the JV team. Just 2 days ago he said our goal was to "contain" them.

Does a beheading change our strategy? Oh that's right, we don't have a strategy. Just reaction and political expediency.

I beg to differ - this was an in and out with virtually no harm to us other than failing to achieve the objective. No need to reveal methods and means given we are likely to do this again.

We couldn't hide the Carter one. This one does not need public disclosure.

The timing is purely political.

I think that was the first real mission for the Delta Force and went horribly wrong. It was a huge learning experience for them. Carter did the right thing in that situation.

I don't agree either in leaking that. Could put the rest of the hostages in an even worse situation.

I agree w/you. I just remember about what Carter tried to do & failed big time in the desert.
