Ukraine Protests

So wait... a country like Russia, who is day by day trying as fast as it can to de-dollarize and not rely so heavily on Western European energy sales is going to now be forced to step up the pace even more?

Putin is like, "Please, don't put me in the briar patch..."

Is this the best our so-called minds can do?

It's a complicated situation. If I'm not mistaken, your argument is that this is a part of the world that doesn't really concern us, so we should just leave it be. I don't necessarily disagree with you. I can certainly see the value of this line of reasoning. And if this is indeed your line of reasoning, then it is futile to argue with you about the situation.

On the other hand, I'll give you two guesses to figure out what country is the only nation on Earth to have annexed/de facto annexed, not one but two, territories formerly belonging to other nations within the last 6 years. And the first guess doesn't count.

Land-grabbing: 21st Century style!

I read a concerning quote from someone close to Putin regarding the heavy fines on Russia in a landmark $50B arbitration case. The Russian official said "There is a war coming in Europe. Do you really think this matters?”

So Merkel seems to be our generation's Chamberlain, Germans are willing to accept the illegal annexation of Crimea.

Know, however, that I have been giving absolute hell to RT posters today. It's like arguing with 5 year-olds.

Land for gas: secret German deal could end Ukraine crisis - Europe - World - The Independent

Outline of Merke's capitulation plan;

* The international community/UN must accept the annexation of Crimea
* Russia will withdraw it's funding & military support to the terrorists (fat chance)
* The east (I'm assuming) will be granted some devolved powers
* The Ukraine will pledge not to join or request NATO membership
* The Russians will than respect the Ukrainian/EU association agreement
* Gazprom will offer a new gas deal to the Ukrainians & that Moscow will pay the Ukraine a billion dollar compensation package for loss of rent due to Moscow stealing Crimea

Good luck getting Kiev to accept any of that.

To follow up, who the hell is giving Berlin the authority to negotiate secretly with the Russians and acting on behalf of Kiev?

Peace for our time?

She is literally giving everything under the sun to the Russians if this is accepted. Which will only make Putin and his cronies much bolder with their next target.

I hear there's still some ethnic Russians in Alaska that need defending.

Seriously though, I'm not equating the guy to Hitler (nor Stalin), but it really is uncanny how similar his rhetoric is to that of Hitler's, especially given the fact that the Kremlin is using the idea of "fascists" as a primary motivator in resisting "the West."

I don't know what the man will do, but I do know that Vladimir Putin is not the man who is going to back down, not after getting this dip in the pig **** and riling up his fellow citizens. I see this getting very nasty. I don't know about "war nasty," but plain ole' nasty at the very least.

I'm just pissed prices on 7.62x39 have gone up.

Capitualtion plan? LOL... I told you guys in here that Germany and Russia were closer than you wanted to admit. I told you guys that Germany relies not only on Russia's energy imports, but Germany has hundreds of companies that does business in Russia.

Pivot East...

Germany is a sovereign nation and can negotiate with anyone they want. What... are they supposed to wait for somebody else's blessing in order to do something with Russia?

Give it up. Your original post was about this absurd idea that France, Germany and Russia were going to team up to be this incredible alliance that was going to counter the US on the world stage. Now of course you are grasping at straws after being told how absurd that idea was and would never happen since the Germans and Russians do NOT like each other enough to enter into some pact like this. You completely ignore the historical animosity of those two people.

Trade relations are one thing as it's been going on even when the Russians were staring down tank barrels at the Fulda Gap at the West Germans. German citizen acceptance of the Russian annexation of the Crimea is something else, yet again entirely unrelated to an alliance.

What point are you going to try to link in next? The fact that Mercedes cars are popular in Russia, hence they will be in an alliance soon?

You all still have an opportunity to get on the right side of history.

Oh Ras, you never cease to amaze.

When I start seeing Russian troops riding on German APCs handing out Chinese rations down my street, I'll get concerned.

You shouldn't worry about boots on the ground on Main Street USA. I've never implied that and you know it. But this shift to the east is something the world needs. We need to get away from the Anglo-American cartel that spreads death and debt around the world.
