Haven't saw it but I'm sure it's what all his lib fan club & the ilk wanted to hear. Still not sure what Dungy said that was so wrong. At least Dungy is being honest.

He didn't say anything wrong. He's being honest, and I guarantee all the other former players on ESPN agree with Dungy, but roll with the media to protect their jobs.

It's sad how they're scared to have a non liberal opinion.

Scared... or are just blind followers to whatever the media wants to put out.

For those who seem to have an issue with Dungy's statement, please explain what you disagree with from his statement below. It seems to me, given the timing of the interview (when Sam's proposed TV show was in fact getting much publicity), and when his comments were made public just recently, that the media is doing what the media does best... trying to create controversy for ratings.

Below is Dungy’s efforts to clarify his earlier comments in its entirety.

On Monday afternoon while on vacation with my family, I was quite surprised to read excerpts from an interview I gave several weeks ago related to this year’s NFL Draft, and I feel compelled to clarify those remarks.

I was asked whether I would have drafted Michael Sam and I answered that I would not have drafted him. I gave my honest answer, which is that I felt drafting him would bring much distraction to the team. At the time of my interview, the Oprah Winfrey reality show that was going to chronicle Michael’s first season had been announced.

I was not asked whether or not Michael Sam deserves an opportunity to play in the NFL. He absolutely does.

I was not asked whether his sexual orientation should play a part in the evaluation process. It should not.

I was not asked whether I would have a problem having Michael Sam on my team. I would not.

I have been asked all of those questions several times in the last three months and have always answered them the same way—by saying that playing in the NFL is, and should be, about merit.

The best players make the team, and everyone should get the opportunity to prove whether they’re good enough to play. That’s my opinion as a coach. But those were not the questions I was asked.

What I was asked about was my philosophy of drafting, a philosophy that was developed over the years, which was to minimize distractions for my teams.

I do not believe Michael’s sexual orientation will be a distraction to his teammates or his organization.

I do, however, believe that the media attention that comes with it will be a distraction. Unfortunately we are all seeing this play out now, and I feel badly that my remarks played a role in the distraction.

I wish Michael Sam nothing but the best in his quest to become a star in the NFL and I am confident he will get the opportunity to show what he can do on the field.

My sincere hope is that we will be able to focus on his play and not on his sexual orientation.

yet are perfectly fine backing murderers, drug dealers, wife beaters, animal torturers, etc. Clearly the opinions you should value when it comes to relationships

The point is his mediocre talent wasn't worth the distraction & there's nothing wrong with stating that no matter who you are.

Co SEC defensive POTY = mediocre talent.

Sounds legit.

Hate much, or is it because he's gay, and that doesn't suit your views?

Was Tebow more than mediocre talent? David pollack? Some are hit & some are miss. Playing hard & even playing well doesn't always carry over to the nfl. When you're a 7th round pick that's undersized with less than stellar measurables then yes you're mediocre. Relatively speaking.

IMO, him publicly coming out when he did hurt his draft status. Sure he is a bit undersized, but so was one of my favorite NFL players. I was neither a UT nor Cowboy fan at the time, but I did like to see Bill Bates do his thing. An undersized pro bowler. Just sayin.

Pollack had a career-ending neck injury in the second game of his second season....

Sam. You can't give him credit for saying the nice thing. You have to say something negative about it.

I don't even know what he said. Haven't bothered to look. I'm sure he's playing the pr card for all it's worth though. It's not that I even care that he's doing that it's just messed up that everyone else gets ridiculed if they off their opinion & it's not pumping sunshine.

Right, so why would you have an opinion about it?

I would say the same thing to anybody who makes flippant remarks about comments they haven't even heard. You are completely biased and unfair. Own it.

Lol. Oh you're serious.

Ok I read it. Guess he didn't take the high road. Won't matter who the coach is soon enough.

I don't understand why people think he should have no shot in the NFL. When was the last time an SEC DPOY didn't deserve a shot in the NFL?

If anything, his announcement brought on closer scrutiny and hurt his draft status (not saying team's downgraded him for being gay, but that they all took a microscope to his game, moreso than they would have).

Him being SEC DPOY was a bit of a joke. Against Murray St, Arkansas St, Vandy, Toledo and Florida he had 24 tackles and 9 sacks, and 13 tfl. The other 9 games 24 tackles and 2.5 sacks and 6 TFL. He basically had 5 really good games with a lot of mediocrity. I'll be shocked if he sticks on a team for very long.

Edit: a joke might be harsh, but it's a little misleading. Makes you think he terrorized the SEC, when he simply didn't. He also had 2 FF and 1 FR, not exactly staggering numbers.

Gosh at the hate in your heart & doo doo in your soul.
