Do you think possible defections between now and NSD might open a spot up? Dormady and Jennings may already be EE by then though.

Probably depends on how the UT coaches actually view the "issues" being reported with TG. IF Williams did decide to open things back up at some point, the coaches may consider TG. IF Jefferson picks OSU, maybe TG has a chance. IMO those are the only way he is really in play. Both Dormady and Jennings have shut things down. They are not going anywhere and like you said both look to be EE's. I could also see a scenario playing out where Williams sticks, Van chooses OSU, and CBJ decides to just keep Bruce at WR and takes another LB or CB.

I think you take the kid. He's either gonna be a star at QB, which Trent Dilfer thinks he could do; a WR, which apparently he is also very talented at; or a Safety, which some think he is best suited for.

If you can get a playmaker at either of those three positions, you take him. JMO.

I have a feeling that we're gonna take who we want. Not sure how, but this staff just has me feeling like they're gonna do whatever they want to do, and nothing is going to stand in their way. It's like rules don't apply to them, Butch does what Butch wants.

Trent Dilfer? When has he been known as a talent evaluator?

ever heard of Elite 11 QB camp? he basically runs that show now...I like his evaluations,he is straight to the point,no sugar coating...he basically clowned the #1 QB in the nation on TV, saying he wasn't very receptive to coaching and he was a know it all...there were things he could do to get better, but he wouldn't do it because thats not the way they do it at his high school...

I mean what does he know,he just played in the NFL for several years, was a smart QB,he wasn't the best by no stretch, but he was serviceable...

I missed that. Which QB was he talking about? (Since none of the recruiting services agree on rankings)

Per Brent Hubbs…..
Tennessee is vetting Gibson at length to keep recruiting the splendidly talented quarterback/athlete

What does this mean? It means that there are some issues that the Vols are concerned about that have to be cleared up in the eyes of the UT staff.

From all indications, Jefferson is very likely to commit to the Vols.

Where does that put the Vols in terms of numbers if they want to even give TG a deeper look? As it is, the numbers are going to be tight. It could get very interesting.

Careful now Tux. You can't have it both ways. If they are still looking into issues like you say obviously it means there is still interest.

oh Butchna. So angry...

What is this REALLY about? You should start a thread to discuss and just really get into what makes Butchna tick.

Not angry at all...I give you a pass...contributors with way more than 39 posts have wondered the same thing...I'll let you get through puberty before I give you an exclusive. :hi:

All I have ever said is that TG will not be brought in as a QB and that he would be only taken as a WR-if we do not land Jefferson.

Last year, we had almost 20 4* recruits. This year we only have about 3, thus far. Sure, some of those will likely get bumped up to a 4*. But we currently have a glut of 3* players.

As excited as I am about this class, I'm equally concerned that we've also loaded up too much and too early on 3* guys. I suspect that it may not be that we are totally sold on all of them nor lowering our standards. But it does 2 things that could be beneficial in the long run:

1) Fills up the class fast and heightens the level of urgency for the upper echelon players...hoping they will commit sooner rather than later

2) Let's us secure players (early) we think are better than their current rating would indicate...and may have to fight for their commitment harder, once their stock goes up during their Senior season. Dormady, Cherry, Austin Smith, and Picou are some names that come to mind.

But the tradeoff is, if we suddenly have more elite players ready to commit, than we have spots...then you HAVE to start bumping some of those guys who committed early. Makes it an ugly situation all of a sudden.

You do not cut ties with players because of stars.

You fill needs at various positions of importance. You fill those needs with the best talent that you can get and talent that you yourself have evaluated, not what some analyst in his office thinks you should do based upon his star system.

He is a Black QB and that is enough for KTown King...

He doesn't care about that stuff...He just wants us to sign him and get rid of the White QB...

Its ridiculous that people can throw this out here and get likes. If I said people don't want him because he is Black the same people would claim no one cares about race. I could say a lot of you who hate the player with way more potential and who is way higher rated hate him because he is a Black qb. Yall love bringing up race when someone likes the Black qb but hate someone else bring up race when it is about liking a White qb.

By any measure Gibson is better. He is higher ranked, better film, better athleticism, played better competition who he dominated, won more, same arm strength, same size, can make the same throws, way more potential. When people start saying Dormady could win a Heisman or start comparing him to great college players and NFL players he can get just as much love. No one has said that about Dormady though. I guess yall just like him so much because he is White. There are many "He just looks like a qb" comments. What does that mean? He is a big White boy so he looks like a qb? What does a qb look like?

What he said^^^...posters on here praise Butch for his talent evaluation skills on one hand...and then turn around and imply that he spazzed out/panicked, offered/accepted commits from scrubs and is now in a quandary! He turned down commits from Sterling Johnson and Duke Shelley...why didn't he accept them?... HE COULD ALWAYS DROP THEM...I agree that there will be some decommits...but it will be from their end...not a shovel job.

The blurb on volquest this morning sure made it seem like UT leads for Gibson and in return they are doing their due dillegence.

There is renewed optimism here.

Trent Dilfer was a terrible NFL quarterback. For a guy picked # 6 overall, he has to be considered a bust. Here are his career stats: 55% completion percentage, 6.5 yds / att, 0.87 TD-to-INT ratio, 70.2 passer rating. All of those numbers would put him 30th or worse among NFL QBs in 2013, around the likes of Terrell Pryor and Brandon Weeden.

Definitely the worst QB to ever win a Superbowl, and its not even close...
