Official Major League Soccer/US Men's National Team Thread

So the following players have been injured before/during their Send-off series.

Reus - Germany
Montes - Mexico
Ribery, Grenier - France
Oxlade-Chamberlain - England
Ronaldo, Pepe - Portugal
Suarez - Uruguay
Castillo - Ecuador
Shirokov - Russia

And I'm missing someone from Italy and Ecuador.

If we can just stay healthy

Not too impactful, but Alvaro Saborio from Costa Rica broke his foot. He's one of their best players.

Ugh. Altidore was wide open and could have walked the ball into the net if Dempsey hadn't put his head down and decided to do things all alone.

If he would have passed it and Altidore had a heavy touch or the defender that was running btw the toward goal had touched it, then you would have been moaning about Dempsey not taking the shot...in some of yall's eyes, he can do nothing right.

With Jones and Beckerman in and taking care of the defensive midfield duties, it allowed Bradley to roam and do his thing, which was be the best player on the pitch.

Yeah. I thought Dempsey made the right decision there. Just didn't finish. The ball to Altidore probably would have been too late.

I was at the game and watched the warm ups. Jermaine Jones was probably the most accurate shooter on the field.

He was amazing on Saturday. All over the field. Made some great attacking runs out of the back.

So do y'all think JK goes with that lineup? We are much more solid defensively, but that's not saying much when you start three holding midfielders.

BTW, Milo...congrats on the thrashing your boys gave RSL. No excuses this week. We had 10 regular starters on the field. That was a good squad and you beat them in Salt Lake.

Jermaine Jones was absolute class yesterday. Just got around to watching and wanted to point that out.

Finally got to watch last night as well. Several brought spots for the US, the play of Jones among them. Very excited for the cup... cautiously optimistic about the our chances in the Group O' Death, although the central defense still scares the crap out of me.

Klinsmann's tactical strategy in the midfield seems to be working, but if one of Jones or Beckermann goes down it could completely change the game.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the US advance. Germany is out of form and Portugal aren't world beaters especially if Ronaldo isn't fully fit. Ghana could beat one of those teams and I could see the team at the top of the table with a couple of losses.

Prefect scenario:

USA beats Ghana
Germany beats Portugal

Standings after 1:
Germany-3
USA-3
Portugal-0
Ghana-0

USA draws Portugal
Germany beats Ghana

Standings after 2:
Germany-6
USA-4
Portugal-1
Ghana-0

Heading into match day 3 for the group, Germany and USA know that a draw gets both through. Scoreless draw renders the Portugal/Ghana game pointless.

Standings after 3:
Germany-7
USA-5

With that said, if the USA wins their group and wins in the round of 16, they'll earn the chance to play on July 4th in the QF's.

Also, winning the group would almost certainly mean avoiding Belgium in the Round of 16 and instead facing Russia/South Korea/Algeria.

Ecstatic, I would be.

Welp, I'm off the bandwagon. Ronaldo is back playing and with that Portugal thrashed Ireland 5-1 and Ghana beat South Korea (a WC team) 4-0 yesterday.

Our defense looks like Swiss cheese and will get eaten alive by the athleticism of their forwards. Poor Tim Howard.

On to 2016 & 2018!

Hey, dont look at me like that. If everyone is saying it, it must be true and if you hear it enough you start to make yourself believe it.

I mean, come on, we dont have CR7 or Ozil. We dont have the depth. We no longer have the element of surprise. Hell, we dont even have a coach who knows what he is doing!

Monday cant get here fast enough. Im stoked for the way our games fall, it sets up for magical things to happen very quickly.

Not sure why it took that to convince you. We are nowhere near these teams in talent. And as much as people ***** about JK, we evidently have a **** coach as well.

For the record, I love JK. Just don't think we have the horses for this group.

I never understood why people thought Germany and Portugal were overrated. These are world class teams, and Ghana is on the verge of that. I don't even think we'll win a game in this group, but I'll always root for the boys, regardless.

In terms of the world rankings, Portugal is definitely overrated. They're a very, very good team, but not the 3rd or 4th best team in the world like they are ranked right now. There's still a major gulf in talent between them and the US though.

I think they're top 5 when Nani and Ronaldo are healthy and in form, but regardless, they're worlds better than us in talent right now and so is Germany. Ghana is as well, but not by as considerable a margin. It's a massive uphill climb to get out of this group.
