The dealings with al-Sadr were interesting, to say the least. The arming of and monthly payments to the Sunni insurgents, also interesting. The multiple active insurgent leaders who were also given informant status and were thus off-limits to any targeting, again, interesting.

How quickly we forget about the retard John Walker Lindh.

On February 5, 2002, Lindh was indicted by a federal grand jury on ten charges:
Conspiracy to murder US citizens or US nationals
Two counts of providing material support and resources to terrorist organizations
One count of supplying services to the Taliban
Conspiracy to contribute services to Al Qaeda
Contributing services to Al Qaeda
Conspiracy to supply services to the Taliban
Using and carrying firearms and destructive devices during crimes of violence
Old boy plea bargained down to 20 years in prison and will actually be out in 2019.

What's even worse is Bergdahl will probably get a Medal of Honor and full retirement benefits after all is said and done.

So I googled "what's an E4" and man that job doesn't pay much. I see a major makes about 60k. How long and hard is it to make it there?

You're just looking at base pay. As an e4 I was makin about 40k after BAH and BAS.

To be a major you need a bachelors degree and a masters doesn't hurt. As far as how long it takes, I believe 6-10 years.

Just wanted to note that BAH and BAS are tax free. So that helps too.

True. The military sends out a letter each year about the value of your total benefits. I believe it was around 45k. So I can't claim the military didn't pay me well.

None of the enlisted ranks make any money..it's your intangibles that are the money shot. Free airfare, trips around the world, free lodging accommodations, blowing sh!t up for free, shoot people, free red bull, free AA, Jodies on the loose, etc.

Married?

Your typical E-4 (outside of the Country Club USAF) still lives in the barracks and on meal card. So there's a difference across the services.

I was. But I was also Air Force, so I wouldn't have been living on base anyway.

Yeah I know. I'd say the term "pampered" would apply to us.

Not that I'm complaining lol But believe it or not, the Army actually ate better downrange then we did. Their chow halls were superior to USAF chow halls.

You can't watch the interview six of them did with Megyn Kelly and carry away the notion these men are stupid and didn't know what was going on based upon their rank.

Navy life different too - single enlisted up to E6 live on the ship...you even get your own bed (pit - aka coffin locker with 4" mattress and privacy curtains) if you're on a surface ship (not so lucky on a sub)
