No need to be sorry my friend.
Nick, text, email, etc cannot impart emotion. I reread my post and it came across as offended and harsh...definitely not the case.

I have to do my job on relevant stats and be realistic...Volunteer Football is pure emotion and enjoyment for me.

As a senior at UT, went to the Sugar Bowl when UT played Miami. Greatest fan experience ever. No one gave those Vols a chance...it was beautiful with the final score UT 35 Miami 7
Miami fans were everywher and obnoxious pregame...could not find any after the game. :)

Insanity at its best is being a University of Tennessee Volunteer :hi:

But thats just ole asinine insane me LOL :)

I didn't view it as harsh. I respect and enjoy your posts. We are just on opposite ends of perspective here, and it's unlikely we are going to change each other's minds. :) My statement, "asinine" could be seen as offensive, I'm sure. I've just never gotten that rationale (we're going to win every game in spite of everything). I approach every other area of my life, assessing strengths vs. weaknesses, and try to let nothing cloud reasonable judgment. I don't suspend that for sports... it doesn't compute for me.

Anyways, enough of this though. Like I said, we have our perspectives, and are pretty locked in. Have a great evening. :peace2:

CBS Sports on Vandy scheduling

If the Commodores miss a bowl, it won't be because of their non-conference schedule, which is the weakest in FBS.* They will play*Temple, UMass,*Old Dominion*and Charleston Southern, all at home.* Those four combined for four wins against FBS opponents last year.

I didn't see this posted but Phil Steele is doing a 2014 top 40 countdown day by day. Yesterday was #24 and he gave the slot to Florida. He has Texas A&M at #39 and Mississippi State at #34. Cincinnati is #40. None of our schedule opponents other than Florida have been named yet so I'm guessing Alabama, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Georgia, & Ole Miss will make the top 23. If Mizzou is in the top 40 that would give us 7 of the preseason top 24 opponents this year according to Phil. Maybe we will get the #23 slot today? :)

Enjoyed the discussion of the Dline. How about the Oline?

Why they can be better than expected or are they going to struggle ?

Phil has usually been kind to TN in his rankings. I don't see us in the top 25 though. I must admit. I'm a bit surprised we are not in the top 40. I'd put us around 40, I suppose.

I'm about to be without internet access all day so good chance big news breaks today... You're welcome guys. I'll take one for the team.

Speaking of first world problems, the ISP in the country announced today that the minimum internet speed would triple to 30 MB per second by the end of the year.

This was coupled with a promotion to increase my current internet speed by 50% until the 30 MB kicks in, provide satellite TV with the sports package (which we don't have), 3G phone service, and 100 minutes for the phone... for about $10 more than what I am paying right now.

T'was a good day

I think we're just outside the top 40. In an ESPN video from April 9, he has 8 SEC teams in the Top 25, and the Vols are not one of those. He has Alabama #2, Auburn #4, SCAR #10, UGA #11, LSU #13, Mizzu #18, Texas A&M #19, Ole Miss #20. I'd guess we won't make it above FL...

@Vol_Football: AZZANNI on Toughness of WR: I am going to bloody their noses everyday. They need to fight every day. I want us to be the toughest in country.

@Vol_Football: AZZANNI on Pacman Jones: We bring in guys to teach our players. He was a real as real can be. Our kids loved his message.

@Vol_Football: AZZANNI on Pig Howard: Every young man goes through things in life. Our job is to mentor & guide them. I’m into helping kids.

@TennesseeBeat: Azzanni on WR Pig Howard: "He has a list of expectations that he needed to meet...So far, so good...He wants to be on the team."

Hope Pig can get those things done. We need him in the slot this year. His experience will be key.

I think it will be a combination of the two. Our DL isn't going to be dominated by the major school's OL on our schedule but I don't see much of a push or pass rush coming from our guys either. Injuries can and will happen and our depth, while talented, is young and inexperienced, which can and will cause problems.

That said, I don't see much of a dropoff from last year. Yes, McCullers clogged the middle but that's really about it. And, I wonder if it was by sheer virtue of his size, more than anything because, I was disappointed with his results, overall.

While the term "reload" comes to mind when I think about O'Brien and Saulsberry, it's not really a huge compliment because the guys they're replacing didn't exactly set the world on fire...the bar isn't exactly low, but it's not that high, either.

My hope is that we're not placing the same expectations on Vereen that we did with Jacques Smith, who never really turned the corner like I expected. We saw flashes last year from him...hopefully he breaks through this year. His work ethic alone is reason enough to believe he will...or, at least, he can.

Overall, I think the DL will struggle to stay average this year. The starters are SEC caliber but that's about all. Depth is there but the elder classmen are serviceable, rotational, and situational guys only. The lion's share of talent is young and hasn't had time to mature, physically or fundamentally, to SEC standards.

This is a lower-third DL in the SEC...with potential, though. (best I can sugar coat it)

An excerpt...
On coachability. “Ten. That’s where I’m most happy about this group. The boys came over the other night to my house for some dinner. We’re outside playing corn hole and spike ball and the whole deal. Everyone is sitting around eating. I’ve got guys in my third floor area in my man cave watching the Miami Heat game. My wife looked over and said to me that this is first time since we’ve been here and had these guys over that it feels like your group. It feels like everyone is getting along. Everyone genuinely is hanging out and genuinely likes each other. Well there’s a reason for that. It’s called recruiting the right personalities. It’s called Coach Jones’ culture that we’ve built here in our facility. It’s called a lot of little team building things --- morning workouts, meetings, different things they do dinner-wise, white water rafting in the summer. That translates to the field. So guess what? Marquez and Von are out there playing with my daughters. Josh Malone went to read at my daughter’s school. Josh Smith and Jason Croom are handing out doing Field Day at Rocky Hill Elementary School. Guess what? There is a sense of pride and sense of family. They don’t want to let me down. I don’t want to let them down. So guess what? They are really coachable. They’ll go do what I ask them to do because they know Coach Z is on my tail just about every day but he cares about me. He’s going to go the extra mile for me, so whatever he says, just trust him and go do it. He’s not going to lead us down the wrong road. The same goes with our head coach, Coach Jones.”

Best of luck to Palardy, he really turned the corner last year.

Question...will he be a punter or kicker?
