'15 TX QB Quinten Dormady (UT Commit 6/9/14)

You watched a sophomore sling it, not bad if you ask me. All the fundamentals are there. Dad is also the head coach. Kid has huge upside and would not be surprised if he ends up a composite 4 star soon. I know the ESPN guys nearly stuck him in the ESPN 300 despite missing his junior year, so obviously a lot of talent evaluators (ours included) see a really high ceiling with this kid. I know I see it.

PS whomever asked about the injury, yes it was a torn labrum. Dr. James Andrews did him up so you know he had the best doctor available. Personally I'm all for taking this kid in this class.

I like the fact that he is the coach's son. Viewing Bajakian's offense, it just seems as though we need a TRUE dual threat QB. No??

With the WR we have. We need a QB that can accurately get the ball to our stud WRs, hand the ball off to our RBs and take the ball for 5-6 yards when the opening presents itself. All of these things I think he could do.

I actually found his film to be quite average (Not that my expert opinion matters). I say we go all in on TG or bust. I thought Nathan Peterman's film was better that this kid's.

A senior film vs a sophomore film prob would always be better in a lot of cases. Peterman doesn't have a talent issue. He has a between the ears issue when the lights come on. He doesn't process info fast enough and holds it too long. Almost like a robot worried about how pretty his drop looks instead of being smooth

At this point, I hope we would take the first QB that wants on board and use whoever it else to get the ball rolling on the rest of these prospects. I hope it is Gibson. I am hoping he sees the writing on the wall with all these commitments happening and moves up his decision date significantly, but I doubt that happens. However, if we take Dormady and let's say Dungey, do we then move on from Gibson or do we ask Jennings to look elsewhere or just say "Hey, we love you. We want you in Orange and White. But, you need to be ready to play defense." What do you folks think?

I think it's way too early to start moving any of these QB's to defense. Let's give them the opportunity to play their Sr season in HS before we write them off as a QB. JJ has made progress in his spring practice and if he continues to progress at that position, HE could be the one who blows up as our next QB. I have no clue who our 2nd QB will be in this class, but I am confident it will be someone the staff feels is capable of playing the position at a high level.

SN: as others have said, if Gibson thinks he can wait until his season is over to commit, he is going to learn that his options are going to be limited more than if he commits mid-summer. I believe the staff takes the first one on their board who is ready to commit. Too much at risk to not get another one in this class now that RF is gone.

Edit: Meant to say too early to move these QB's to another position, not just defense. I'm aware of the talk of JJ playing safety, but I doubt TG would be moved to defense. That would most likely cause a change in his zip code as well.

Just watched his film, finally. (Didnt before because I didnt think we were considering because of no offer). Im impressed. So I decided to look up his stats... now Im even more impressed.

10 games (as a Sophomore)
228 Completion
372 Attempts
61.3%
3010 Yards Passing
27 TDs
9 INTs

as a sophomore.... in 1 year...

No. I have stated this many times before but even though we are a spread read-option offense like Ohio State and Auburn, we are a pass first team. Our QB only needs to run 3-5 times a game and that is to only keep the D honest. What we need is an athletic TRUE passer, not a TRUE DT QB.

People get too tied up in the idea of read-option and don't take a look at what CBJ likes to do.

Sadly most Vol fans will never comprehend this. This is one of the reasons why I like Gentry so much. I hope we get Dormady and Gibson. I just don't know if Gibson is that great of a passer. There are still several good QBs out there. We'll get one them, maybe two.

I'd definitely be happy with Dormady, Francois, or Gibson. There are a couple of others out there too that would be fine additions to our team.

Something tells me Dormady is our guy this year. Thought his film was great , doesn't seem to have the drama queen thing going on like some of these guys , he's a coaches son...etc ... Really like what he has said about the Vols too. Sort of forgotten about after his injury, but will blow up this year. I think he's the perfect q'back for the system Butch runs. We need his commitment . Just take he and Jennings, and we good

Looks like he will be a big kid, would like to see a QB that isn't a stick running our O.

Butch has clearly demonstrated that he is quite willing to adapt his system to his current quarterback's skill set. However, a statistical analysis of pass/run ratios during Butch's tenure suggests that he prefers to use the quarterback as a ball carrier much more frequently than we saw during the first half of last year. On the other hand, Dobbs' numbers, if projected over the course of a full season, would have tallied roughly 500 yards, which is more than any Tennessee quarterback has rushed for in a single season since Jimmy Streater. Now, Butch may tweak the tendencies illustrated in the following data, given just how punishing SEC defenses tend to be when given the opportunity to unload on quarterbacks, but consider these stats:

Cincinnati (2010-2012):
2012: Munchie Legaux 55-335 6.1 ave. 4 tds.
Brendon Kay 48-306 6.4 ave. 2 tds.
Total: 103-639 yds. 6 tds.

2011: Zach Collaros 84-234 2.8 ave. 8 tds.
Munchie Legaux 41-185 4.5 ave. 2 tds.
Total: 125-419 yds. 10 tds.

2010: Zach Collaros 121-202 1.7 ave. 4 tds.
Chazz Anderson 19-80 4.2 ave. 0 tds.
Total: 140-282 yds. 4 tds.

Central Michigan (2007-2009):
2009: Dan Lefevour 183-713 3.9 ave. 15 tds.

2008: Dan Lefevour 168-592 3.5 ave. 6 tds.

2007: Dan Lefevour 188-1122 6.0 ave. 19 tds. (Incidentally, Lefevour also passed for 3652 yds. and 27 tds. that year.).

Collectively, his starting quarterbacks at Cincinnati compiled 1340 yards rushing and 20 touchdowns; Lefevour rushed for 2427 yards and 40 tds at CMU. If his 2007 numbers had been achieved at a major college program, I dare say that he would have been in the Heisman Trophy race.

Perhaps these data illustrate why Gibson would be such a coveted weapon in Butch's arsenal. Gibson would enable him to truly stretch the field from sideline to sideline.

I wonder why CBJ recruited so many DT QBs if we don't need one? Kind of strange.
