Riley Ferguson appears to be gone

Who cares, he's done. Most likely because he couldn't beat worely, and was starting to fall behind dobbs. The one qb that has changed the most during the off season isn't him, it's dobbs. Dobbs has put in extra time in every aspect, and with the classes this kid takes is unreal. With what this guy has on his plate and is still finding time to get better as a player is mind blowing. Start him day one and back him 100%. He's more dedicated than ferguson could dream of being.

I need as few reminders as possible that CBJ's "major" head coaching experience was at Cincy, where he went a very pedestrian 23-14, including a loss to Derek Dooley. I'm hopeful, I'm optimistic, I'm supportive, but I am not convinced that he's the guy to turn this around. And I could give two rips about anything he did at Cincinnati.

You are proof that we really do have ignorant fans. The UT team that year was stacked offensively the beginning of the year. After Bray got hurt, the season was over. But don't let facts get in the way.

Thanks for the laugh.

Wrong. The season was over after Hunter got hurt the next week at Florida. Bray getting hurt later only added to the misery.

True. Thanks, I stand corrected. But the point being is we had a decent team that year.
You are correct. We could have easily had an 8 or 9 win season. Tennessee started that year with a really dangerous offense, and the old Justin Wilcox defense.
If not for the injuries to Hunter and Bray, maybe we could have started to turn the corner, and maybe there would have been no need for Sal and the staff turnover. Then Dooley would still be here.

One thing that I remember about the Cincy game was that Butch went for it twice on 4th and short near midfield , and we stuffed them. Big momentum shifts.

LWS said that Fergie did not put in extra time in the film room, after practice throwing, or anything else that would help him improve. He wanted the job handed to him. Fergie had an uncle call in to a radio show last season *****ing cause Fergie wasn't getting playing time.

If you read anything about the O&W game this year, Fergie failed miserably. Especially when the coaches blitzed him. It was speculated this was done on purpose to prove to Fergie that he needed to spend more time studying so he'd know what to do when blitzed, as the other QB's were not blitzed much if at all. He failed the course. He has now chosen to take his toys and go home.

Such is life. Good luck to the young man wherever he ends up in life.

GBO!

Looking back, this is why he was a 3 and not a 4 star. Million dollar ability, 10 cent brain. It's a shame he wasted the coaches time. Had he left right after the season, maybe the coaches would have pushed harder to get a QB in the 2014 class. Eh well, better now than later.

Very Pedestrian?

2010: 4-8 (2-5 Big East)
• losses at Fresno State, at NC State, 2 point loss to #9 Oklahoma (29-31) to start season 1-3
• finished 7th in Big East - lost to top 5 teams in conference

Tough start for first year head coach.

2011: 10-3 (5-2 Big East co-champ)
• losses at Tennessee, vs West Virginia, at Rutgers
• won Liberty Bowl vs Vanderbilt
• final rank #25 / #21 (AP / Coaches)

Huge improvement in year 2.

2012: 9-3 (5-2 Big East co-champ)
• losses at Toledo by 5, at #16 Louisville by 3 in OT, vs #22 Rutgers by 7
• Jones left prior to bowl win...
• 10-3 after Stripling led team to bowl win over Cutcliffe and Duke

Maintained 2nd yr success in yr 3.

If this is "pedestrian", then sign me up after the past 6 seasons of coaching changes, dumpster fires and bamboo.

I have seen enough to know he is a much better fit for Tennessee than Kiffin and Dooley ever were.

If we give him time I believe he will restore the program.

The same old QB to be named later epic fail we typically have when the on line and call in fans have their say. Brandon Stewart, Rattay, Brent Shaeffer. We rarely know what the hell we are talking about.

I wouldn't have thought to ask this question but since you did, I'd say Riley hands down. CBJ held up his end of the bargain, which was give Riley a chance to compete for the job. Riley was splitting reps with the 1s prior to the Spring Game and played primarily vs the 1s in the O&W game so clearly Butch was giving him his opportunity to be the starter if he could earn it.

Appears Riley wasn't up for it and decided this wasn't for him. It hasn't been reported that CBJ ran him off but rather Riley has decided to leave the program. Looks like a no brainer to me.....Butch held up his end of the bargain and Riley didn't. No hard feelings, too bad it didn't work out, both parties move on.

This is exactly how I viewed it when RF was getting reps with the 1's over Dobbs and everyone was hoping it was because he excelled. That was more of a case of CBJ giving RF a chance and clearly he couldn't do it.

You do know that the ads are generated from your personal search history right? I've seen zero drug rehab ads.

Apparently they also based on page content. At he isn't getting ads for gay cruises like our Alabama visitor complained about. I wish I could find that thread.

I want to say something like this happened about a year or 2 ago. Someone said "I'm seeing ads for a risque dating site on here, Freak. Thought you should know that that might be inappropriate for kids".

Freak just responded with "Those are tailored ads due to your internet browsing."

Or something around those lines.

I work in the medical field and do a lot of online lookups for illnesses, meds, etc for which I need more info. You should see my ads. :ermm:

About a month ago, a "vol fan" busted himself as a troll by complaining about vandy ticket ads on a UT site. I'm sure someone could dig that up fairly easy.

If that's the case, I guess my internet browsing activity suggests that I shop for a lot of zero turn mowers.

'Glad you brought that up. With such apparent talent, Fergy still couldn't amass enough respect from the recruiting services to garner 4*s? UT's got actual depth at qb (c'mon and argue that point come mid-season) and Gibson may well be enticed to commit due the extra breathing room. Mr. Ferguson. What's your take?
