'15 FL QB/WR/DB (anything he wants) Torrance Gibson

I respect Coach Matthews but I just can't see us bringing in two more qb's in this class. Jennings may never take a snap at qb but it's clear he's no scrub plus we took Stephen Griffin's commitment, another tall safety, and continue to recruit Rico Mcgraw. I'd like to take one more qb max, hopefully Gibson, and not scare off every '16 qb in the country

Matthews has been on the money...

I'm pretty certain I heard Doug Matthews say Jennings was not recruited as a QB and that the coaches were doing their best to bring in 2 highly rated QBs in the 2015 class (easier said than done). Either way, with Gentry off the board, Torrance Gibson appears to be the clear cut #1 QB target.

If the UT staff told Jennings he was not being recruited as a QB, I not so sure he would be a Vol commitment right now. JMO

If you forget his history of atrocious games against Florida both under Spurrier and Meyer.

Or are you crowning him the best DC in the country only when he has a pipeline of highly talented players?

Who can you think of, off the top of your head, that is an all-around better developer and coordinator of talent? Honest question.

Spurrier and Meyer have a lot of national championships between them, and the point about the pipeline of talented players is irrelevant. John Chavis is, and it's not really that close, one of the most consistent and proven developers of top college and NFL talent in the country.

What do you want him to do, recruit crappier players?

Yea I know he's a well connected guy and doesn't just spout off b.s. and I don't even want to get into the numbers talk but I think it would be really odd if we took two more qb's in this class. Idk maybe he has a better idea of what team 118's roster will look like than we do..

As a Vol fan, YES I do. :)

Haha, yeah, I guess this would be so now...

I've always respected and admired Chavis though. He's a true Tennessee man to his core, and I know what happened to him and Phil had to hurt him deeply after all the faithful years he put in. I doubt he'll ever coach on the Hill again but I hope one day he has a nice display case in the athletic complex in his honor.

I always want to Tennessee to win, but I don't think I'm the only one who finds it hard to root against Chavis.

I will always respect the job Chavis did here. I am probably one of the few who had said I would have been fine had Hart hired Cut as HC and then Chavis was brought back as Cut's DC. In the end, Hart did just fine with hiring Butch.

Volatil, whose son plays on the same team as Jennings says QB. I'll roll with him on this one.

It's with the defense he didn't have. Put Alabama's defense in A&M jerseys and he has an NC every year he played. He supported his part of the equation on offense as well as anybody.

I'm not saying he wasn't a fantastic college player; he was. MOST impactful, though? I know you said arguably, but I disagree.

Jennings could also play WR.

A year or so after getting to UT, he very well could. Another reason I am not a fan of taking TG. Taking 2 QBs in 1 class who may not actually end up playing QB could be a disaster.

No QBs in 2013. The 2 in 2014 end up at WR and or S and because you took 2 in 2015, the kids in 2016 are not really looking at UT(kind of like 2013 after taking 2 in 2012).

After taking Jennings, I would rather use the other spot elsewhere. If it's not a proven top end passing QB who is 100% a QB, I'd roll with just Jennings and focus on 2016 options.

I think I may be one of the few on here that agrees with you. No way we turn away TG if he wants to come here but I think people are evaluating him on his potential while evaluating Jennings on his current state. TG would be extremely exciting in our offense but honestly I think we would be better served with a gunslinger who could definitely get the ball to our incredibly talented receivers and keep defenses honest by picking up a first down here and there

His first statement was that Jennings was not recruited as a quarterback and he agreed to that. His second statement was that Tennessee wants to bring in 2 quarterbacks for 2015. He's not the only source to say that.

I'm in favor of holding out for Gibson. I think he fits in already. By having two quality dual threat QBs you simply double the odds of having an awesome dual threat QB. Not to mention TG brings a certain star power that could attract other top tier talent that we desperately need and seek.... There's always that.

Matthews is usually pretty spot on. I was a little surprised too because I thought he wanted a shot at playing QB. But I got no reason not to believe Doug. The only thing he's missed on that I can remember is him saying he didn't think Weatherd would sign in Feb. Otherwise he's been very accurate.

I thought I read somewhere that the staff wants him in the secondary? I could be wrong about that though. I don't care where JJ plays, guy is a baller.

Kids in 2016 aren't looking at UT? ... Says who? And you're talking about kids who just finished their sophomore year. They're just now barely getting recruited.

I think it's common knowledge that ut wants to bring in two qb's this cycle but I had assumed that would include Jennings, not be in addition to him. Even though noone should give a crap about my opinion versus Coach Matthews' I'm just not buying that Jennings was not recruited as a qb. He definitely said in an article before he committed that all schools recruiting him were recruiting him as a qb. The coaches may not be sold on him being the future of the position at ut just yet but it seems that he believes he'll get his shot and I doubt CBJ would lie to him about that
