When do they teach 'em to knock out opposing players' teeth?

he's working on that now, if he can't stop the puck, with his stick, he just knock 'em down

coach got on him pretty good the second time he did it, and it pissed him off

he came over was fired about getting "coached up", but after catching his breath and getting a drink he went out and finished it up

I was proud of him

I love goon hockey. Sure, scorers have all the pretty moves, but I love to see a good check into the boards. They've ruined the game by trying to take out some of that physicality imo. Kind of like preferring old school slobber knocker football to what passes for football today.

Ha, the "bash brothers" were my favorites on Mighty Ducks

There's also a hell of a lot more skilled players now than there was 30 years ago.

Growing up, my friend's family had season tickets to the Cherokees/Speed/IceBears right near the penalty box. Best part of the game was when the goons would fight and get sent to the box, especially when the opposing goon lost. Then we'd get to taunt him. One actually came up into the crowd once because he got so mad at something someone had said. Fun times.

Because no one appreciates a good enforcer like they used to. Remember Ulf Samuellson? Gretzky's bodyguard back in the day. Trying to remember, but didn't he spend some time with the Penguins protecting Mario as well?

Fun fact: I was/am a hidden character on an old hockey video game from the late '90's. My friend met the game designer online and he picked our brains for some ideas. As a reward, we were hidden players on the game.

Ulf was a Whaler then got traded to Pittsburgh with Ronnie Francis, ended up doing some time on Broadway too.

He was a good stay at home D-Man, enough to deserve a roster spot if he wasn't chippy. I'm a fan of clean hits, but the "old days" need to stay there. There's enough guys with scrambled brains as it is.

Then who am I thinking of as Gretzky's bg? McSorley?

I was never a fan of the blind hit or using the stick as a weapon, but I still prefer hockey when it was more physical. And I always found a good fight entertaining. But everyone has their preference.

I don't think I've watched hockey since Jagr was a young star on the Pens. I probably don't even know any of the players in the game now.

Jeff Beukeboom, I actually have his Rangers sweater

I checked, it was McSorley I was thinking of. He played with Gretzky on the Oilers and Gretzky made it a condition of his trade to the Kings that Marty be included in the deal. Ironic he was the one I was thinking of because he's the one that clocked Brashears with his stick. That was a dirty, nasty move. I like the game to be physical, but that had no place in the game.

Beukeboom was a badass that didn't mind fighting either. But he was actually a good defenseman as well. McSorley was normally on the ice solely to protect Gretzky. He wasn't horrible, but he wasn't the caliber of Beuk.
