Pig Howard update per CBJ:

#76
#76
He robbed a liquor store because he was underage and got drunk. After he got drunk, assaulted a girl and knocked her up. She needed child support and hush money, so he started selling weed. He got hooked on his own product and the weed affected his grades. He got a tutor but couldn't pay him so he stole his roomates laptop to pay for tutoring. Mountain Men gang are after him for selling in their hood. He bought a gun on the street but it is linked to mulitple murders...police investigating. Oh and the IRS wants back taxes paid on weed sold.

Once this is all squared away, he can come back and play.

Is that all?

the mentality of posters on here amazes me. It no small miracle that we have any recruits at all. Shouldn't this be a place where we get information on our beloved Vols and offer our heartfelt support. Wishing you the best Pig!

You are giving yourself and other VN posters way too much credit. Do you really feel you have influence over whether a recruit commits to TN or not based on VN posts? Give me a break.

I firmly believe that most recruits don't commit to a school or even a coach. They commit to the best forum.

If it's grades, I hope he has a great tutor. If it's a team decision, I'd imagine they want him. I just want him back on this team. Too valuable not to have him. #TakeCareOfBusinessPig

"There are some things that he still has to do before we even think about bringing him back into our football family. He understands the criteria that has to be met. It's an ongoing process, and we'll make a decision here in the next week or two. A lot of it has to do with getting our academic reports back and the finalization of grades."

Per TFP in Chatt; thought some of you might like to know where things are right now. It appears just reading between the lines that it is an academic issue, not "weed" which has been suggested by some here and seems to be the first assumption anytime a player is in the doghouse.

This wording makes me worry that it's not an issue of grades. If grades were the issue, once the grades were corrected he'd be cleared to return; not much to think about.

And by the same token if they really wanted him gone he would have been gone two months ago.

Ah....wording?

Not sure what part of it you're not getting. CBJ said pig has to fulfill certai requirements before he can even think about letting Pig come back; so it seems to me, based on that statement, that Pig has done something more detrimental than grades. It could be an attitude problem for all we know, who knows.

I'm telling you right now that the issue here is a lack of effort in the classroom (grades). The only thing we can do is play the waiting game. If the decision were to be made at this very moment, I don't think he would be a part of this program. Keeping my fingers crossed that Alton did well on finals.

Many here on VN always forget that many sports stars are given a easy road in high school just because they're so important to their team.

Then they get to college and it's much harder and they're really not prepared for the academic grind they have to perform through.

It seems like it's grades and maybe something else as well since team leaders and maybe the whole team will have a say in things.

Nobody really knows for certain though.

Time will tell but I wish him all the best and I hope he makes it back on the team.

I don't think it's just grades either. You don't need approval from your teammates for a grade issue - too many struggle from time to time and we don't see what we've heard regarding Pig's situation.

Personally, I think he's having life trouble - he's at the age where a wide range of issues and stressful events can and do happen. It's all too common in college. However, plenty of students make it back from there - some don't. I hope Pig makes it back.

A lot of people fail to realize that fans on social network has a lot to do with recruiting. Prospects wanna go somewhere they are welcomed

I think some underestimate the importance Jones puts on academics. Also, if Pig can't get the grades in the Spring semester, he is more than likely not putting in the work.

Heard Hubbs talk about this issue on 104.5 this morning. Said it'll be sometime this summer before decision is made, that Pig has ALOT of making up to do to earn trust of his teammates. He evidently has over time shown very poor commitment including being 4 days late showing up for classes at the beginning of a semester. Didn't catch it all, perhaps someone else heard and can add other details, comments from Brent.

I'm assuming you believe athletes should be paid, too, right?

I do believe athletes should be compensated for generating revenue for numerous outside institutions and organizations as well as their not-for-profit universities.

The dynamics of collegiate sports have changed since 1960 to now to not just being a sport but a multi-billion dollar industry. If every collegiate athlete decided not be play sports for universities that industry goes away.

Why should coaches, college administrators, and other sponsoring members be compensated if the person actually providing the resources isn't?
