I Remember.......

We relied on pay phones back then. We had to use the pay phone two ring trick to get picked up. Put your nickel in, let the phone ring twice and that was the signal for Mom or Dad to pick us up from wherever they had taken us. Later, learned how to drop the nickel in, hit the coin return with precise timing and get the nickel back plus a dial tone.

I don't remember this one in particular, but Blue Circle was founded in 1931 in Knoxville.

We lived way out in the country in my younger years. Not many had a telephone in those days. So, when it was time to come home, my dear old Mom would stand on the porch and lovingly call us in. It went something like this. You little sumb itches better get your asses back here now or I'll beat you with the baseball bat again.

Ahhh, the goodle days.

WE had a party line and our ring was two short and one long... can't remember how many were on that party line, but you count on someone always listening in to our conversations LOL

As for the other point, my dad would simply blow his coon hunting horn (made from a old steer horn) and if we were in the wood or within distance knew we had to get our arse home

When we got a phone, it was a party line, too. Seems like there were3-4 other people on it. I was probably 8 or so. Don't remember the rings but the number was 9761.

I remember when I could do my job without filling in 17 different forms with the very same information and asking my families to sign every piecie of paper twice :(

Of Course this was BEFORE the "Paper Reduction Act"

I remember when Berry's prepared my Dad. Fred, Jr. told Mom not to worry about anything. He told my Mom, "Ether, you pick out what you want, we have this. No charge."

I remember too much sometimes. Sometimes it's a flood of memories from better times. It's hard not to drown in them.
