Couldn't agree more with Coach Pearl

Sure. It's just a matter of maintaining respect.

When you switch schools, you have to be 100% committed to your new program. Not 99%, not 99.99%...you can't be caught daydreaming about your former allegiances. I'm not saying that's what he's doing, but you can see how it could potentially send a mixed message to some fans on both sides

Not following you. What "walk" is Bruce walking here?
I think 99% of non alumni coaches at UTK who claim and promote VFL status while here will drop it the second their employment ends. People are surprised by him using the term because they assume he's in that group. It's a fairly exceptional person who would maintain that association under the sort of circumstances that BP has been through. I think that if you asked him he'd tell you that when he accepted the VFL status he fully intended it to be as it says, for life.

You say "circumstances he has been through" like he is a victim. Bruce did in Bruce.

So who did Bruce lie to? Oh the NCAA, the same NCAA that makes millions off of kids who don't get a dime. Oh wait, they are going to get more food if they don't unionize. The NCAA will be extinct within the next 10 years if but for no other reson than avoiding lawsuits for compensation, concussions , etc....

Don't give the education BS either, a degree in this job market isn't worth the paper it's written on. I am still paying on my worthless degree, so give anyone who deals with the NCAA a break because Colleges are a money racket.

He could've said: "Screw Auburn, this is my chance to get back to Knoxville."

He basically just said, "dammit I shoulda waited a little longer." Bruce signed only after we made the tourney and we all thought Martin was staying for a while to come. If we hadn't made the tourney, I'd bet money that Pearl wouldn't have signed with Auburn when he did.

There are schools that would have stood by their coach. He lied and he took the full brunt of the consequences.

Good grief. No program would keep a coach under those conditions. NCAA would have nailed UT. Mizzou would have dropped Haith like a bad habit if NCAA was going to issue a show cause. Get over it.

I liked Pearl while he was here and he did great things in Knoxville but the longer he's gone, the more some of you want to grant him sainthood.

I absolutely agree.

UT should have worked like heck to keep Bruce Pearl. Should have kicked the NCAA with a hobnail boot. Hambone and Cheek!

It's not that we worship him. We just miss the success we had in basketball while he was our coach until things went downhill from there.

So it's ok to lie to some folks but not ok to lie to others? Is that the lesson we take from your post?

What about telling the kids to lie about being at the cookout--is that ok too?

Again, I lke CBP and he did a lot for us Vol fans but let's don't anoint him as a saint.

No argument here. Cant stand NCAA and he should not have gotten shpw cause, but that doesn't mean UT could afgord to thumb their nose at them. You also left out the fact that lied to UT

Some of us remember what it was like before Pearl and remember being told to "go to K-Mart" by a guy who was supposed to be our coach.

It's not that Pearl's a saint, he's certainly not. It's that Pearl was one of us from the moment he arrived.

Do you know what a show cause order means?
The school would have to show cause why he should be permitted to coach. They never even asked for a hearing to try and present mitigating circumstances. Cheek and Hamilton dropped him like a hot potato and he still says he's a VFL. I guess I live by some antiquated value system where I can appreciate his magnanimity.

Pearl is an excellent salesman, but it appears that most of his long term relationships end with him getting caught up in his own lies. If he could just stop lying he would be an excellent basketball coach. Auburn better hope he learned his lesson.
