Unofficial Coaching Search Thread

I just heard from a source with knowledge that UT plans on hiring a coach by the start of basketball season FWIW

By Thursday Tennessee had reached out to Tad Boyle, Richard Pitino, Mike White, Tim Miles, Archie Miller, Chris Mack and Donnie Tyndall. Doesn't seem any other coaches have been contacted and it seems extremely likely Tennessee's next coach will come from that pool.

Pitino, Miles and Mack being top 3.

This supposedly came from VQ.

I'd agree with that being the list. Maybe then people can stop inquiring about Shaka/Marshall/Tubby/Rick Byrd/etc.

There does not appear to be interest from TN for Tubby or Howland even though both did reach out to TN.

Marshall's salary would be in the high 2's so that knocks him out..

I can understand passing on Tubby.
Howland should be given serious consideration.
Marshall warrants a high 2 payday with his accomplishments.

Looks like TN is going on the low side, which isn't always a bad thing.

Good. I am fine with all those names.

There are many good coaches out there. There are D3 coaches happy where they are that would coach circles around d1 coaches. Just find one. Not a name or hype. Just a coach that knows what he's doing, has a pg and a few players that know the game. It's been too long since tn had some deadly shooters and we wont win consistently until we get them.

I'm fine with everyone but Pitino, and even then I'd still be able to warm up to it eventually.

Yeah, I have reservations about him of as well, but I wouldn't hate the hire. Surprisingly Archie Miller is the other name on there I have a lot of reservations about.

I am sold on White. I think he would bring excitement to the program with his style of play. He also has a 70.5% winning ppercentage.

Guy who runs Basketball Time mag posted a coaching search update this morning. Reading between the lines, it looks like one of Mack/White/Tyndall to me. Link

That did not come from VQ

This is from VQ

At this stage it's difficult to confirm specifics, but we strongly feel that Tennessee either is interested in speaking with, or in a couple of cases may have already reached out in some way likely third party to Tad Boyle, Richard Pitino, Mike White, Tim Miles, Archie Miller, Chris Mack and Donnie Tyndall.

They go on to say that Tennessee would have to exceed $2m for Boyle and they've been told by multiple sources Hart will not exceed $2m. I think you can likely cross Pitino off as well, he would want close to $2m, add in his buyout and you're talking a lot of money for a guy who's done nothing except have the right father.

That leaves White, Miles, Miller, Mack and Tyndall. From reading multiple national analysts I would be shocked if Miles ditches Nebraska, he loves it there and has it much better than most would think.

I would say top 4 are White, Tyndall, Mack and Miller with miller being the least likely.
