Dave Hart Blames Fans

Ya, it's the fans fault for putting a sorry product on the floor for a majority of the season. Martin wasn't going to last another 2 years here. His decision to leave was best for both parties.

Criticism is one thing, but you seem to forget this genius fanbase is the same one that sent death threats to a 20 year old Crompton. Lord knows what Martin had to endure. But, that's ok, because the coaches and players deserve that stuff just for pissing you off.

Poor Cuonzo has it so tough, how does he manage to live on his little salary?

Do you not think he will go thru the same thing at Cal? When you're in the spotlight it's just something you must accept, as well as the glory when things go well!

His track record hiring at FSU was 50/50.

Steve Robinson failed. But Leonard Hamilton is still there and FSU has been very competitive in the ACC under his watch.

We may well end up with a good hire. Perhaps the fans will receive credit for that as they seem to somehow gain the blame whenever things get messy at UTAD.

Tough life rolling around in a Benz, eating at Morton's and living in a million dollar house. Oh, not to mention his monthly paycheck topped $112,000...

Tough rough life he had

No way I would take that kind of abuse regardless of the price. I mean ... Uh wait ... Did you say $112k? Per month? LOL.

Oh, c'mon man. So the VFL aspect is of low value for you?
Personally, idc...good luck to Martin and let's look forward...

GBO!!!

That's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is that people continue to pay for tickets to games when they are fully aware that the teams likely won't perform at a top tier level, but still complain when they don't.

It's like wiping your butt with that TP that is like sand paper and then complaining that it isn't Charmin. You know it isn't going to be what you wanted, but you still purchase it!

Not trying to compare these teams to butt wiping, but just using an analogy that hopefully brings a little humor to the forum.

Ok, you receive death threats, to your wife, kids, get your honky cracker ass out, etc. See how much a salary of any number means to you. You don't know what **** he may have endured. But when our fans do that **** to a 20 year old kid just for throwing a few interceptions, I can imagine he got worse.

Except many schools (Alabama, Florida State, etc) haven't played their spring game yet. But I get what you're saying.

.??? FSU just played in front of 30,000+ last Saturday ( and that was a generous 30,000 to say the least).

Good for all of those people. At the end of the day, these awful, no nothing fans continue to consistently deliver one of the best attendance records in all of college basketball. That money built this program a wonderful upgrade to TBA and a terrific practice facility.

I could understand if this was a situation where there wasn't baseline support for the program, but screw anyone who says that paying customers don't have a right to demand a better product when things aren't going well... which they weren't at the time of that petition.

I agree. Now, Hart needs to hire these fans what they deserve, a competent coach and recruiter.

So in other words we want the fans to buy tickets, buy merchandise but keep your mouths shut when the product sucks.

And writhe at the treatment of our fallen head coach...RIP...

Oh?....he got a raise? And moved to Cali?

WTF is all the *****in about from his disciples? :eek:hmy:

Yup, he made $28,000 a week. His 2 week salary tops what most top what most people make in a year. I can deal with a petition for that pay.

You don't know anymore than me. Are you saying Cuonzo received death threats?

Hart said it wasn't about the money. He very clearly said that.

And you believe he's telling you the truth?

Regardless of how you feel about Martin's abilities, the truth of the matter is that he emerged as a relatively hot property with some schools seeking a basketball coach. He had better offers to leave Tennessee, offers Hart refused to match. He left.

That wasn't a decision the fans made. A petition didn't drive him off. Vocal critics didn't scare him away.

He simply took a better offer, one our AD decided not to match.

Once the AD gets tired to hiding behind the traditional athletic department strawmen, perhaps he'll get down to the business of hiring a quality replacement.

I think we can all agree that is uncalled for, and not something any "fan" should be proud of. No one is talking about his pay in regards to his wife being harassed.

Any coach who pays attention to the circus that is public media--fan forums and twitter, etc., is asking for trouble. You gotta stay away from it and have thick skin: all coaches get criticized, and in this age it is public, but you can mostly isolate yourself from our blather and nonsense. California is a good spot for him--not exactly an athletic pressure-cooker--but you are going to catch heat anywhere if you don't put decent/good teams on the floor. Martin makes a little harder for himself with his personality: If he were anymore low key he'd be sleepwalking.

I didn't sign it, and to be honest, wasn't even aware of its existence until a week or two after the whole ordeal begin (admittedly, I only passively follow our basketball program), but if the petition is truly what drove Martin off, then good riddance. He will not and should not be missed. At the time that petition made its rounds, his team was vastly under performing, on the heels of two NIT-level seasons nonetheless.

I'm happy his team was able to turn things around and make a run, and I wish him well at Cal, but if he can't handle the criticisms that come along with expectations, then he is in the wrong profession.

Yes, it was tough when we were 7-7 in the SEC and lost to Vandy who had like 6 players none of which would have started at UT. Fans should have hugged him and thanked him for the loss. That great timeout at Texas A$M which cost us the game....we should have given him a $500,000 raise.

We should say, hey coach you don't have to win..we support you no matter what.
