Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

Just wanted to share this with some of you guys..mods feel free to delete/move if you want.

My dad & some of his buddies worked on a project to build a real life tow mater & lightning mcqueen a few years ago. He takes them around various places in west Tennessee to parades, birthday parties & all sorts of things.

A few days ago the parents of a 5 year old boy named Peyton, who has brain cancer, got a hold of my dad & they said Peyton wanted to see tow mater in person..so yesterday afternoon he drove tow mater an hour away & surprised Peyton with it. He got to ride in tow mater & lighting mcqueen & they even raced each other. I just thought it was pretty neat..brought a tear to my eye.

Not a fan because of his team? As a player he is stellar, and he has been exemplary so far in how he carries himself personally.

I didn't mean not a fan as in "I don't like the guy."

I meant not a fan as in "I'm not overvaluing this guy like I would if I was a huge Angel's fan." I do dislike the last name Trout though. It sounds fishy. I didn't like Tim Salmon or Anthony Bass either.

That's a nice thing your dad did. I'm glad good people exist. Please thank him from VN.

OT- Ken Griffey JR's son had a nice catch today in Arizona's game. Didn't know his son played Football, have to see what kind of rating he had coming out of highschool

Trey played for Dr. Phillips (pretty good football team). I had the opportunity to lease space to John Denny "Turf Athletics:". John helped coach Trey after school to improve his baseball techniques. John graduated from Arizona. He played football and baseball at Arizona and was drafted by the Mariners. Could have had some influence in helping Trey go that direction (Arizona). Don't know for sure. He did say Trey could have gone the football route too. :hi:

Actually he went the football route sorry. I thought John had him go to U of A to play baseball. At least that was the case when I spoke to John. It was back when Trey was going through his Sr year at Dr. Phillips. John was involved with quite a few of MLB from the Windermere area. A couple of miles from his training facility. I did get to meet his father. John Denny Sr. Played for the Cardinals a while back.

Several recruiting notes as the spring evaluation period begins tomorrow...

With coaches on the road tomorrow, just wanted to give an update on where some of the guys will be throughout tomorrow and early this week.

Tommy Thigpen will be in and around Atlanta tomorrow before heading to the Midstate later this week.

Don Mahoney will be in the Midstate tomorrow to see Jack Jones and Alex Givens as well as several others.

Mike Bajakian will see several quarterbacks this week and that includes Torrance Gibson on Wednesday. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he also saw Deondre Francois and Dwayne Lawson either some time this week or later this spring down in Florida.

He won't see Zach Gentry from what I understand as his school has an Easter break this week and so the school is closed. Expect that visit to take place next week.

As for other quarterback options, expect Bajakian to busy checking out numerous guys this spring. Names like Eric Dungey, Nick Tiano, Travis Waller, Tommy Stevens, Quinten Dormady and others are all names to keep stashed in the back of your head.

Mark Elder will be in North Carolina midweek to check on a few guys, but it's spring break for some schools over there, like Sterling Johnson.

Robert Gillespie will be in Atlanta early this week to see Eric Swinney but then will also be in North Carolina to check in on a few guys.

Steve Stripling is heading out to see some junior college defensive linemen this week so we may hear of a few new names this week.

Just a reminder on the spring evaluation period, coaches can basically visit a school twice. Once for an 'academic check' and once for a 'practice check.' So, it's a little different than the December period where you can stop by a school every week.

Also, Elijah Taylor, defensive tackle from Ohio, is taking an overnight trip today and tomorrow. Jerome Baker is scheduled to do the same later this week. Kahlil McKenzie is still expected in this weekend as well.

I would say Mike Trout projects to be worth about 500 million by the end of his career.

Im not a fan of his but I have a hard time lowering his value after seeing some of the revenue numbers for baseball.

I dont think any MLB player is worth that much. Babe Ruth, Ken Geoffrey Jr, Sammy Sosa, Derek Jeter or whoever. They just aren't worth 20+ million a yr IMO.

What's up dude? I see the books got you busy these days.

Yeap, I've got just a little time for extra curriculars but not much. Trying to work and get my MBA is pretty taxing. Also have a lil animal I'm helping coach.

Ready for August to roll around

Reggie Cobb, James Banks, Ontario Smith, Lamarcus Coker, Darick Rogers want to meet this kettle you speak of.

jamar hornsby ronnie wilson skylar thorton avery atkins(RIP) brown(first name escapes me 5* DT) DT (who starts for 49er) list can go on. Urb had no issues booting kids. His issue was number of arrest as HC. And dreams about 18 boys lol

My assement of Ferguson was not a knee jerk recaction. I think based on all qualities he's the best QB on the roster. It's the mental aspect and decison making that's keeping him from running away with the starting job.

I don't mean to suggest anyone with an opinion is weighing the spring game to heavily, but you do see quite a few who are.

Worley still sounds like the most consistent with the "cleanest" game so far. If he turns out to be the guy, I hope he has a little more wow than he did last year. With these guys, maybe a five yard dump is all the wow he has to provide. It seems like there are quite a few homerun threats on this roster.

Dobbs and Fergs need more consistency, and turnovers will turn off a coach in a hurry. While I don't think Peterman is as bad as his Florida highlights suggest, it sounds like he's still a good bit behind the rest.

I totally agree - we do need to talk some football and have to stretch at times. lol.

I really don't care who wins it either. So many seem to have this Anybody But Worley thing going on when he was the one that could have led them to 6 wins and a bowl game last season if he had not been hurt. I was shouting "Free Fergie" with the best of them last season. Dobbs got a good shot last season and was clearly not ready. Maybe he can step it up now. I don't think we should give up on Nate either. It was a bonehead move to have him start his first game on the road at UF - Worley should have started that game. Whoever it is - support the guy until he proves himself or clearly bombs.

What I really want is for Jake to open the offense now that he has weapons. Let's get the ball to them down the field instead of all of this sideways crap. Quick or deep - get them in space where they can destroy a secondary. Then send the ponies between the tackles to keep the D off balance.

Too many months between now and August. (Or maybe not enough if you're a coach tying a team together.)

Didn't really even look like a check down. Looked like Hurd was primary bc Croom looked like he was blocking/shielding the entire way. I'd have to watch that play again, I could be wrong

Not much compares in this world as putting a smile on a child's face.

You are right. It wasn't a check down. It was a swing pass intended to clear out room for the running back as the primary receiver. He threw it right at the end of his drop.

Getting your MBA at UT?

They practiced Thursday and were playing a game Saturday. Butch probably decided the guys needed a break Friday instead of practice. They were only going to wear helmets working mostly on special teams anyway, it wasn't going to be full pads.

Yeah, but they couldve used the practice after the spring game. Couldve had practice today to correct issues they saw on the field
