Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

Still think we are a 5-6 win team. Depth on the line is a major issue. Was really hoping Riley or Dobbs would pull away by now. I'll be thrilled if we get to 6 wins.

Still have my doubts about Bajakian and Jancek. Bajakian more so than Jancek. Jake has the horses now, let's see what he can do with them.

SN: I think Azzanni has a very bright future ahead of him. I wonder what he could with the play calling duties in his hands.

I think we trend more towards 6 wins but, sadly, I don't disagree with you on any of these points. The coordinators will, IMO, prove themselves more next year just for the simple fact that they're working with such a young team, overall, this year. They have some major pieces to the puzzle but it's far from complete.

That doesn't give them a pass though...this team MUST go bowling. If not, the debate of whether CBJ is a permanent solution or just stocking the pantry for the next HC will replay ad nauseum pretty much anywhere sports are discussed. While I think he's proven he can overcome just about any obstacle on the recruiting trail, so far, other HC's have had very little ammo against Jones and his perceived job security...another losing season doesn't bode well for Jones.

This is off topic while we wait for Ron and Tri to line up (guys - wait for the whistle).

When people have been talking about Bobby Denton - we go way back. I mean he was a fairly young guy when as a kid I went to my first game in Neyland. I know people are attributing "It's football time in Tennessee" to him but I always associated that more with John Ward. For Bobby, since I was a young kid, the thing that stood out to me the most was when he was talking about the concession stands, "Please pay these prices and please pay no more". At the time I knew we weren't suppose to trust the vendors cause obviously they must try to overcharge people. I loved hearing that and I'll never forget it. It was like the PA announcer was looking out for us. We were in good hands inside Neyland. Just an awesome memory.

I went to a Tennessee - Kentucky game in Lexington, I believe it was in 1987 because we only won by a couple of points, and Bobby Denton sat behind me. He talked to the man that was at the game with him the entire game and was very respectful of those around him. He didn't talk real loud but I could hear a lot of his conversation and he was really knowledgeable about the Tennessee team on both sides of the ball. I made several comments to him and he did back to me about what was going on during the game. At the end of the game myself and several other Tennessee fans shook Bobby's hand and told him how much we appreciated him and that we enjoyed his company at the game. Super nice guy.

Just got home from knox. Had an awesome time. Met Worley, dobbs, and ferguson.

After game we went to calhouns on the river. I was wearing my authentic eric berry vols jersey. Walked outside and right there was Eric berry . He signed my signed my jersey. Then later he walked by and we ended up talkin. Just sayin stuff like things are about to turn completely around for the vols. Said coach jones knows his sht and the players love him. Sorry i know cool story bro. But ive never met a player in such a casual setting.

Players can bail an OC out on offense. He's got FREAKS on offense. I'm worried about Jancek personally.

As I sit here partaking in my beverage of choice.. you guessed it, miller lite... I was discussing with some friends, you think a recruit ever drunk committed to a coach?

maybe at a bonfire with his boys, had a few too many and they get him all worked up about a school and he calls up the coach and tries to commit?

Found this awesome breakdown.

Tennessee Volunteers spring football game review; QB drive & unit comparisons - National SEC | Examiner.com

All TDs came from 1st team offense vs 2nd team defense, except Worley's which was 1st team O vs 1st team D. Both of Ferguson's turnovers were 2nd team O vs 2nd team D. So really our first team D only gave up a TD and a FG, while our 2nd team D gave up a bunch of scores, but forced 2 turnovers. Dobbs never faced 1st team D

Thanks. This is what I thought but since they're hording the replay I couldn't prove it by more than a few highlights. Again, thanks for the link.

haha for sure. Applying for summer internships made a few drinks necessary.

I've always said, before any war happens the two leaders should split a case of beer, they'll either solve the problems or be ready to throw down. Either way, something will be decided.

I bet it happens all the time.

Better question is....do coaches ever drunk dial/text recruits?
