Alright, here comes my sunnyside up assessment of Riley, before the O&W Game. These are reasons for optimism. They are mostly rehashed from previous discussions on here, but hey, we're just waiting for the game, so here is something to discuss.
1. Riley had surpassed Dobbs on the depth chart last season, before injuring his leg.
2. Dobbs did fairly well for a freshman. The WR's did little to help him, he had been getting the least of the reps in practice, and he had to play some vicious teams. All in all, there was definitely a lot of potential there with some slight adjustments and timing.
3. We all heard how Dobbs had been working with a QB coach during the off season, regarding his mechanics. Also, he has gained a lot of good weight, and has been a model teammate and hard worker in the film room... yet Riley is ahead of Dobbs.
4. Riley and Worley have separated from Dobbs and Peterman. Those additional reps with the first team are crucial moving forward.
5. The coaches will not name a starting QB till fall camp. This keeps all QB's hungry and working hard.
6. Reports seem to indicate that talent is never Riley's issue, but consistency/decision making. It will be exciting to see how he does today, and how much growth he has experienced in that area.
Happy Songkran!
