Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

Not sure I understand this move. I thought depth at CB was more of a problem than WR. Maybe his skillset is just not working out at CB. CBJ's next media session should have some interesting info.

that depth chart at DB is about to get a major talent infusion this summer - my guess is Malik really needed to have a good spring to stay ahead of the incomers and will need to really progress to stay on board and have a shot at the 2 deep on O or D

This plus uncertainty surrounding Pig and Jenkins struggling with injuries. Only leaves Johnson and Young in the slot. Adds some speed and depth at the position along with Wharton coming in.

Agree. I wasn't considering the absence of Pig and Jenkins. Jenkins knee is beginning to look at lot like Meredith's. Sad.

Pig won't be with the team come this fall, or is at least extremely unlikely to be. Young has been moved to RB, but could contribute in the passing game. We can see plenty of Wharton, Smith, Johnson, and Pearson in the slot I think.

Pearson starts in the slot this fall with North and Croom/Malone out wide. Gonna be fun to watch.

yep that 11 personnel is nasty

Hurd/Lane
Helm/Wolf

North
VP
Croom/Malone

lot of talent at the skill positions there and a much different picture than what we saw last year

From VQ, it sounds like our WR groups break down like this:

North
Pearson
Malone

Croom
Smith
Johnson

Carter

Blanc

Everyone else.

Malone has already passed up Croom? Wow. I thought JC was supposed to be having some sort of breakout spring.

I bet Croom gets the start ahead of Malone against Utah State. Not that it matters much, but I think this is how it will be. Croom has been in beast mode lately.

I saw that as by spot for outside receivers. North starting on one side, Croom starting on the other. Could be wrong though.

Our WR's have become a strength on this team compared to last year when they were a weakness. And we add in Preston Williams next year. Wow. Now just need the O-Line and a QB to step up.

Here is from the scrimmage:

"*Daniel Helm and Ethan Wolf split time at tight end. At receiver, Von Pearson, Marquez North, and Josh Malone worked with the first team. In four WR sets, Josh Smith joined them. North lined up in the slot multiple times today—that’s something to watch for this year. Jason Croom, Johnathon Johnson, Cody Blanc, and Josh Smith worked with the second team."

Edit: FWIW, it seems like people think that Croom, Johnson, and Smith are a very strong second group. All are SEC WR's.

Strong receiver and RB group. Now lets get the QB identified along with a left O-tackle and all will be well on the offense for years to come.

Thanks for the clarification. I read your other post completely wrong...lol

I doubt it, as "beastly" as he's playing the top three are on another level athletically. They are NFL elite level athletes. There's a difference, not knocking Croom either. But those top 3 guys(North, Pearson, and Malone) are big time on any roster in the country.

The offense has the potential to be better than 2012 in 2015.

Veteran QB (or an extremely talented freshman), North, Malone, Croom, Pearson, and Williams at WR, Hurd/Scott/Paulk RB trio, and Helm/Wolf at TE.

Plus an experienced OL.

Nasty.

I think the position that will make the 2015 offense better is that the runningback position will be more talented than 2012.
