Not sure if this is sarcasm, but aTm had a big WR,Mike Davis I think is his name, who I would consider a weapon and Baylor has put several WR's in the NFL, including one on the Titans who was a first or second round pick. I agree with the thought of having a QB who can use their legs on occasion over having one who leads the team in rushing, but I don't think having a truly dual threat QB will prevent the recruitment of elite receivers. I think play calling would have more to do with that than the QB's running ability.

Josh Gordon, Kendall Wright, and Terrance Williams all played at Baylor with RGIII.

This is an un fathomable pipe dream

Didn't say how likely I thought it was, just that I wouldn't be surprised. Gibson and Jennings could both easily be recruited as ATH. I think Butch can sell them both on competing at QB with the full knowledge that one or both of them could end up at another position. The question then is whether Butch is a good enough salesman to get Jennings and Gibson over their concerns about ending up at another position.

I'm not going to bet against Butch at tthis point.

That's true, but it's a lot easier to be an effective runner against Big East defenses compared to the likes of Florida, Bama, etc.

Okay, so let's look at a more recent example. Like Brendan Kay, Josh Dobbs will probably never set any land speed records. Yet in only 4 1/2 games including three of the best teams in the country (Bammer, Barn, Zou), he managed to become the team's 3rd-highest rusher. If you take his per game average against SEC competition and apply it to a 12-game season, he becomes the most productive rushing QB at UT since Tee Martin, maybe even more so. I haven't done the math on it myself but I've seen other people post it in here before. All this to show that you don't have to be some sort of track star to rush productively in this offense. Even Justin Worley does alright when he actually decides to keep it.

True...good point...but you think Bray would have even had positive yardage against same defenses?

'Twas sarcasm bro

Oregon, Baylor, and Oklahoma's starting QBs last year all averaged about 5-7 carries a game. That would kind of fit into my thinking as they would not be leading their team in rushing doing that. QB carries it 6 times a game, he is still tossing 25-35 passes or more. WRs would like that game plan.

Do you think our QB's are gonna be running any more than Oregon's? I highly doubt it. If we end up with Gibson, it's not gonna hinder our WR recruiting at all...

Manziel pulled it down and ran all the time, yet aTm is pulling stud WR's out of LSU's backyard and Evans will be a 1st rounder.

Has there been any news on Gentry lately? It seems like his recruitment is rather quite right now. Anyone have any news?

He plays against horrible competition. That is probably why he looks faster than he is. The dbs and lbs in his film are horrible.

I have stated this over and over again. The guy runs a 4.9 for Jesus sakes. He will totally neutralize the read option.

Where did you get the 4.9 number from? Ive only seen it listed faster than that. Also for reference, Dobbs runs a 4.9

EDIT: 247 has Gentry listed at a 4.68

I did some looking and only thing I found was this posted by SB Nation when he got his tx offer.

"On film, Gentry is a good athlete at the position for a pro-style passer, running for 617 yards and 16 touchdowns as a junior with reported 4.68 40 speed, though he looks closer to the verified 5.02 40 that star California quarterback Josh Rosen registered at a Nike event".

This on going debate has been very tiring... Both QB's have their strengths and will be utilized properly. Would it be nice to have a true game changer running the Zone read? Yes. But that isn't necessary, as long as you can be a threat to move the chains when read properly. Also, as always, 40 time from sites and reports are hardly true, especially with QB's. Not very many are true 4.6 guys or better, which doesn't mean they can't be a running threat. They get to the NFL combine and run way slower than their supposed HS and college 40 times

Speed is not every thing for a read option qb.This guys size already at 6'7 and 235 tells me he could be a load to bring down in the open field .He will most likely play at 240 to 245.Plenty big enough to cause some would be tacklers a few head aches.Dont know how tough he is.But I wouldnt mind a Tebow size qb that can get a tough yard or 2 every now and then.;)

Speed for a QB is over rated. Can he lead? Can he make good decisions? Can he throw the ball away from the defense where only his receiver can catch it? Is he coach able? Does he have the character and qualities to be a champion? That's what I look for in a QB. Be a leader that his team believes in! That's what I want.
