If he gets moved to OL he's done IMO.

I haven't heard anybody say what Jason might want to do. Maybe he'd be happy at OT or maybe a broken hand is just cramping his style at DT. I really don't know what the story is but if as you suggest he opts to leave if moved, I suppose he could go to Northwestern and join the union? :)

With several hundred Tennessee students on hand, as well as approximately 200 faculty members and dozens of high school coaches still on hand from this weekend's clinic, the Vols scrimmaged and worked a variety of individual battles inside Neyland Stadium Saturday morning and afternoon.

Head coach Butch Jones, admittedly and eagerly challenging the physicality and mindset of his team, initiated a variety of one-on-one battles on the field in front of the Tennessee student section "to see what they're made of."

Kyler Kerbyson, Dimarya Mixon, Kendall Vickers and Von Pearson all had decisive victories. Jakob Johnson also had a big win in the circle-of-life showdowns. Arguably the loudest cheers came when Curt Maggitt battled A.J. Johnson to a physical, but brief, draw.

A.J. Johnson ultimately got the most extensive action of his spring to date, and Tennessee's defense over the course of the day looked better for it. It also allowed the continued work of Jakob Johnson at defensive end.

Whether it was wind or a combination of breakdowns on various plays, the Vols' quarterbacks were not very sharp for much of the scrimmage work. Riley Ferguson tossed an early interception, and Josh Dobbs was tackled behind the line, including a third-down sack in which he held the ball entirely too long, during some goal-line work.

Justin Worley continued to have the smoothest quarterback operation of the offense, and he also had a couple of scoring tosses.

Devrin Young had a strong scrimmage, maximizing opportunities particularly on screen passes and plays around end. Young had a touchdown around right end after taking the handoff, easily cruising into the end zone.

Malik Foreman had a pick while Justin Coleman, despite a green jersey, broke up a pass and later made a couple of strong open-field tackles.

Kyler Kerbyson, during some offense-defense battles with points on the line for the coaches' modified scoring system, dominated Owen Williams during a pass-rush set.

Jalen Hurd ran well at times but also fumbled for the second-straight practice session. His lost fumble on this day came near the goal line and was termed "catastrophic" by Jones.

Cody Blanc made a couple of strong catches, including a late score off the arm of Worley.

Jordan Williams showed up well along an improved defensive line, which also got some quality plays from LaTroy Lewis and Dimarya Mixon.

Josh Smith caught a long touchdown pass from Ferguson late down the right sideline. Von Pearson had scored on an electrifying end-around but a holding penalty whistled against Alex Ellis negated the play.

Safeties Devaun Swafford and Geraldo Orta did not scrimmage, nor did Austin Sanders. Coleman and Max Arnold were the only players in green jerseys.

Tennessee had several visitors in for the scrimmage and some that had already left town in the morning that were in Knoxville on Friday.

Brian Cole left town Saturday morning after spending Friday in Knoxville checking out the Vols.

in town for the scrimmage were four-star defensive end , offensive line commitment Zach Stewart, 2016 running back Tre Harbison, 2016 linebacker David Reese.

There will be some "it worked out" situations just as there are some "that was a train wreck" situations. I'm just not a fan of moving players from the position they want to play. I see it more and more on here fans saying move a kid from DE to OT, move a kid from TE to OT, from RB to LB, from QB to WR/TE/S/CB or whatever. I feel if you need a S, recruit HS S's. If you need a TE, recruit a HS TE. If you need an OT, don't try and find a 235LB DE you can add 60LBS to and risk destroying a kids future with an experiment. ESPECIALLY when the kid is against the idea.

I'd say if done correctly it works out far more than not. JRM is a converted DB and so was Brent Brewer. Maggitt is a converted LB who still plays there occasionally. John Chavis won us national championships by successfully projecting guys to other positions.

Except high school kids aren't even close to completely physically developed. A lot of kids are projected to outgrow positions just from natural development. A 270 pound high school DE isn't going to stay 270 pounds through 4 years of college.

As a student at the practice, I saw Ferguson get what I thought was noticeably more reps than any other QB. Threw two picks today but also had some of the best throws. Worley was second in reps and was very consistent.

In some situational drills, the offense could move the ball but struggled to get it in the endzone early on. Defense held tight in the goal line drills.

Cam Sutton's punt return was pretty great. Multiple cuts and jukes.

WRs had SO many drops today. Butch called them out every time too.

Overall, good practice. Saw improvement from the defense. We students got to go on the field and interact a little towards the end. That was definitely my favorite part.

What if he is a 270LB DE with 20-25LBS of bad weight? Of course he could lose the bad weight and still play DE at around 270 through his college career.

Justin Worley and Riley Ferguson — with Ferguson getting plenty of snaps — continued to work with the first team at quarterback. Joshua Dobbs was the first quarterback getting reps with the second unit, working in front of Nathan Peterman.

Worley, with the pocket collapsing, took a sack later in the scrimmage in a first-and-10 at the 14 situational drill. He threw incomplete on second down, before finding a wide open Von Pearson on a post route in the end zone for a third-and-5 touchdown strike.

Ferguson, working with the second team in the same situational period, handed to Jalen Hurd on first and second down and scrambled for a short gain on third down after the pocket collapsed. Jones ordered the unit to go for it on fourth down — “all or nothing,” he shouted — and Ferguson threw incomplete in the corner of the end zone.

Ferguson stayed on the field with the first team after the fourth down failed, drawing a pass interference call on Emmanuel Moseley on a throw to Josh Malone. Ferguson was sacked on third down, forcing a 23-yard Derrick Brodus field goal.

Hurd had a red-zone fumble late in the scrimmage.

“Jalen Hurd put the ball on the ground,” Jones shouted into his microphone. “Red-zone turnover! Catastrophic!

“Can’t turn the ball over in the red zone! Winning football!”

Devrin Young had a touchdown run with the second team and Cam Sutton broke up a Worley pass intended for Malone in the corner of the end zone. Malone drew another pass interference on Moseley on the next snap.

Sutton later had a punt return for a touchdown.

Riyahd Jones broke up a jump ball in the end zone against a leaping Marquez North, forcing a chip- shot George Bullock field goal that missed wide left. Bullock connected from 46 yards later in the workout.

On first-and-10 from the 42, Riley Ferguson found Von Pearson for a 42-yard touchdown pass, but it was nullified by a hold called on Alex Ellis.

Ferguson dropped a 42-yard touchdown pass into the extended arms of a sprinting Josh Smith in the corner of the end zone later in the drill.

Dobbs, under pressure in the pocket, threw complete to a crossing Ethan Wolf with the second team in the same period and two plays later scored on a quarterback keeper over the left side.

Damn so the QB reps are winding down. It seems that Riley is firmly ahead of Josh but Worl is still the front runner. I'm still #TeamFergie but I think having Justin playing well could be our best route especially early on.

Worley will run the offense while Ferg and Dobbs are still developing. Also, if Worley is QB the entire year, it is an easy selling pitch for '15 QB's for the opportunity of early playing time. If we're taking 2, just tell them Worley graduates and it will be wide open for anyone. Easier to get 2 that way

@FootballTimeMag: Right now—defenders are in the backfield at the snap. The o-line, especially at tackle, is really struggling.

@FootballTimeMag: If the #Vols get to a bowl this year, Jones needs to be in consideration for SEC Coach of the Year.

@FootballTimeMag: Very bad. RT @blakecreek: @FootballTimeMag how'd the o-line look today?

@FootballTimeMag: @blakecreek Ferguson had a better day than Worley except for two plays.

@FootballTimeMag: @blakecreek he's been better but not a ton better. No one is taking the job from him though.

@FootballTimeMag: If the season started today, there's no question Worley would be the starter.

@FootballTimeMag: The #Vol QBs ran for their lives all day.

@AndrewTSR: RT @DanielNooga: Per my scrimmage notes, this is how many series each QB got today:
Ferguson: 9
Worley: 7
Peterman: 4
Dobbs 3

I think the coaches are set with Worley but are giving Ferg every chance to take it away. The problem is for every great play Riley makes, he also effs one up it seems.
