I would imagine the coaches tell just about every QB they are recruiting that they did not take a QB in 2014 so they could go "all in" for (insert QB on current UT visit name here).

There's no question the coaching staff is emphasizing the fact we didn't sign a QB the year before as an opportunity for playing time to all of our 2015 QB prospects (Gibson, Gentry, Nunez, Jennings, etc), but I doubt they've told every prospect "we waited last year specifically so we could sign YOU" like they have with Gibson.

Coaches and players don't interract with each other in a vacuum. Word gets around, especially with Twitter and internet message boards where every prospect interview is scrutinized for detail. Thinking logically, I believe Gibson is our top target at QB because: (1) Gibson has stated on multiple occassions that our coaching staff has been waiting for him; (2) none of the other QB prospects have relayed publicly that our coaches have said the same thing to them; (3) the other QB prospects remain interested in signing with us; and (4) our coaches remain interested in signing Gibson.

If Butch Jones had told the other QB prospects the same thing he told Gibson, they would know from Gibson's statements that either Jones or Gibson was being dishonest. If Gibson was lying (or broke a promise to keep it quiet), Jones wouldn't remain interested in him; if Jones was lying, none of the other QBs would remain interested in Jones. The only explanation that reconciles points (1), (2), (3) and (4) is the likely scenario that Gibson is indeed the staff's most coveted QB prospect while Gentry and all the others are plan B.

If Gentry doesn't get an assurance from Butch that he's NOT plan B,he DOESN'T make that drive from Albuquerque to Knoxville :stop:...I've driven it several times...ain't nothing after that Amarillo steak challenge (and subsequent endocrine failure)...here's a reasonable Butch explanation to Zach "He's loud, overconfident and couldn't hit the lake if you dumped him out the boat...but he's athletic and heck we made a starter out of Munchie and he probably doesn't suck THAT BAD...he talks up a storm and doesn't let anybody get a word in edgewise, thus he came out of our meetings with THAT quote...he's saving box tops, aluminum cans and probably his own 5* DNA to purchase a mink coat for his ESPN Signing Day Special...until we get your verbal,we keep recruiting him"...in so many words...SO MANY WORDS...preemptive TLDR

Hopefully, as some have said, he'll commit this summer because getting Torrance would lead to locking down some elite skill position players, IMO.

Butch Jones wouldn't throw one recruit under the bus to appease another recruit, especially where we might actually sign both of them. Jones said what he said to Gibson, and I think he's going to have to own that if asked about it by the other QB prospects and say he isn't going to apologize for going after the best players in the country.

I wish he would pull trigger early. This is the type of commit that leads to Top 5 class with a shot at top 3. Kids will start lining up to follow suit

I like how the rest of the country is slowly starting to realize that Butch Jones is the real effin deal when it comes to recruiting.

That 2014 class wasn't a fluke, ya'll.

Rump is advising him against committing early. Tells his kids to take their visits and be open to the process.

That is all good and well, until every school you are interested in already has your position filled. Gentry, Jennings, Nunez etc...

But he is a 5* and any school would be stupid to not make room for him. Cut someone loose. Drop a long time commitment. The kid is a 5*! Make it happen!
