Revised Coaching Fantasy List

In my opinion there will not be a quality coach available this year to compete on a level field against the Sabans in the conference, especially with the high profile schools like Nebraska and Texas A&M seeking top level head coaches. This is why Hamilton will keep CPF fo 2008.

There will be a coach that can recruit and win championships for Tennessee next year available.........one Bobby Petrino! (forget Fisher and Gruden they or pipe dreams)

And this would be why Grobe shouldn't be considered...then again you have to wonder if he had the backing of a big time school, what could he accomplish?

if one loss to a bad team was a sign of anything, Fulmer should be long gone. You can't pin it on one loss, especially seeing it was early in the season, WF is rebuilding, and Callahan had just inked his new contract. While Grobe wouldn't be on my shortlist, i hate saying this, but TVA is right. It is easily understandable why he would be a possibility.

This has got to be the ONLY guy that thinks there will be a vacancy at Indiana after this season...let's see the Hoosiers are bowl eligible for the first time since Moses caught a TD from Jesus, and still have 2 very winable games left on the schedule...Indiana could wind up 8-4 and 4th in the Big Ten...why replace the coach?????...

I agree Bill...you can't judge a man by one win or one loss...After reading your response, I do see why Grobe would be considered.

Question though...Does he have any Tennessee ties? Obviously he has southern ties...What I'm getting at is how well do you feel he could recruit?

Tennessee ties? Who gives a d*mn about Tennessee ties?! Can the next guy win games? That is the only question I care about!

i'm with Lex on this one. I don't think recruiting to TN is as hard as most want to say it is. the only difficult part is you have to be willing to travel a little more than some. UT has facilities that are second to none, tradition that is second to none, an incredible fanbase, a great gameday atmosphere, it is a proven freeway to the NFL and some extremely hot coeds. What more could an 18 year old football player want? Laugh at the last one if you want, but if you don't believe it helps, you were never an 18 year old male.

Edit: I'm all for someone with no Tennessee ties. Completely shed ourselves of the "good ole boy" system that has dominated for years.

A-f'n-MEN....Finally I find the crowd that wants QUALITY over history, family, etcetera...thanks for the feedback fellas!!!

Look at Notre Dame (not saying Weis is bad coach) they went with a guy "in the family" and look what they have suffered...

Let me tell you why you don't want a coach like a Grobe at a high profile like UT (at least it was 10yrs. ago). These guys have a good year or two at those second level schools because thy have no pressure to win so they can redshirt everybody in order to have a decent fourth year plus they load up on patsies on their schedule (Kansas this year and RUtgers last year) so when they have a good record a miserable football school they become media darlings.

Two examples: Gary Barnett and Gerry DiNardo.

can we get off this Gruden thing? i def. don't want that guy

you've made that abundantly clear. Others can still wish for him. Some on here don't want Pelini but that isn't about to cause me to stop saying that's who I want on Rocky Top.

kinda like that upstart coach at Duke several years back...I don't understand why you would not consider Grobe.....he may have potential.

My two cents. Your A.D. RIGHT NOW should see if RRod would be interested in the Vol job for about 3 million a year. If not, keep Fulmer another year and see if he can win the East in '08. If not, throw a bunch of money at Petrino because he will be ready to get the hell out of the ATL. Trust me, it's better to keep an average coach for stability than to hire another average coach who might do worse because it will wreck recruiting.

agree 100%, however I believe that we could attract an above average coach, of course you probably thought the same thing as did UF etc.

Finally a Bammer with a brain!!:eek:k:

i dont know if Grobe would do well here or not, but i get watch Wake quite a bit here, and they play solid, fundamentally sound, mistake free football. the defense is stiff, and very opportunistic and the offense he runs is deceptively smooth.

his biggest problem......he's not flashy. his best attribute: he can flat out coach.
