University of Tennessee gonna advance further than Memphis State?

Is that any worse than idly standing by and watching Pastner piss away talent? Sorry we're not content with PRIOR mediocrity. If CCM had Pastner's talent and was 2-4 in the tourney I'd be raising hell as well. No one should be satisfied with merely getting in and then routinely crapping their britches, especially not a "blue-blood" like Memphis (quotes denote tongue in cheek).

So with that being said are you sold on CCM's coaching and recruiting abilities at the this level? I've been critical of Pastner since he was named the head coach of Memphis and disagreed with his contract extension even though Arizona was interested in bring him back on board.

Congrats to UT for making the Sweet Sixteen and giving me a team to keep me interested in the Tournament. As I said in another thread Memphis didn't want any of UT playing the way they are playing right now one of the best 16 teams in the country.

Honestly Memphis matches up very well with UT, the Tiger's have issues with team's that have overwhelming size in the post. A team like UT would allow Pastner to use all of his 3 and 4 miniature guard formations which he loves to use so freaking much

No, I'm still not 100% convinced he's the long term answer (as are others). Which is why many called for his head myself included. I am convinced that he can recruit at a high enough level. Too many coaches have proven over and over again that it doesn't take rosters oozing with 4-5* talent to consistently win. While others like Pastner and Anthony Grant have proven incapable of winning with above average talent.

CCM has brought in 7 top 150 guys in his 4 classes, including the 2014 guys. That's more than enough to compete in the SEC and make tourney runs. Sure I'd like to see more, because the percentages of winning go up, but at this point it doesn't really concern me.

It's the in game strategies and seemingly lack of passion that have concerned me all along and still do at times. However, those concerns are slowly eroding. I fail to see how demanding results from a profession that is paid and evaluated solely on tangible results is such an unruly stance to take?

You can't make a run in March if you don't go. His talent has gotten there 4 years running. If he keeps getting tier 1 talent and keeps getting to the dance, it won't be long before "Can't make it past the first weekend" is just something else people used to say about him. The improvement fell off this season, but Pastner got the trhee best wins of his career this season. March was forgettable and overall disappointing, but March is about draws/matchups for the 3-12 seeds.

Pastner, like Cuonzo, is a young coach. After you've put in 5 years with Pastner, or 3 years with Cuonzo, you don't just up and get rid of them if they're performing adequately.

Memphis had one player in their rotation that will play at the next level, Austin Nichols, that's just a fact. There are only fifteen teams in all of division one that can say they have won enough games to be in the NCAA tournament 4 years in a row and one of them is coached by Josh Pastner and he's "incapable of winning". I've never bought into the CCM, Pastner hate or comparisons, IMO they are both up and coming Head Coaches and both universities should be glad they have them. Did Memphis underachieve this year absolutely, but so did Kansas, Duke, UNC and a lot of other big name universities.

Hell Kwame Brown was drafted so anything is possible, getting drafted doesn't mean you have a career in the NBA.

Then I'm unclar on what you're even saying. Either he will or he won't get drafted and play in the NBA.

Regardless, can we leave the self-deprication to the dudes in orange?

What is there to bet....

i don't see many NBA GM's drafting 6'8 power forwards that suck on defense, get push around in the paint, and miss tons of layups.

I think Nichols has NBA talent. I don't know how he will develop, but he certainly needs to add weight and develop the 15 footer. But the potential is there.

As far as the rest, they may not play in the NBA, but there are guys who will make money playing basketball. Geron has an NBA body but not shot. Certainly a disappointing end to the season. I said all year that those guys didn't need to settle for shots. The new rules should have benefitted all 4 guards attacking the basket. Josh has to get serious about not allowing his players to settle and get more strict with what he wants.

The day I go to a Memphis board and fight with a vol fan let me know lol

The mempuss fans are fighting it out!

So having NBA level talent is what's needed to make it to the 2nd weekend? Pearl has exactly 2 guys (CJ and Tobias if I'm not mistaking) from his teams, in the NBA, yet made several 2nd weekend runs. Neither one of the teams with the two NBA guys made it past the 2nd game. FYI, I've got 16 D-1 teams that have made it, and I'm not going to get into the smallest of small schools.

He can easily get drafted in the 2nd rd where there is no guaranteed money, and never play a minute in the NBA, or even suit up for a game if he's cut in camp.

Sidenote: this whole thread is stupid. Enjoy our run and don't waste one minute of your time worrying about Memphis.
