I saw a CCM fist pump at the end of the game. Not as extravegant as my celebration, but it was still nice to see.

Yeah I saw that little reaction, he was walking over to shake hands. Happy for him and the guys. They really played hard today. Would love to get revenge on Michigan for the last time we were in the tourney. Straight murked us, of course we had some certain situations over our heads.

So it is possible for a young coach to learn on the job and improve? Learn from his mistakes and adapt to new things?

of course but changes shouldn't take so long at this point in his career. He faced Stokes up more. Guys stopped worrying about a certain amt of passes before taking a shot. Moore played more during the streak, as he should've been all year. Hell, jrich I think was benched earlier in the year after maybe getting off 2 shots one game, and shot 6 against this Mercer team last year. What gameplan involves him getting 2 shots?

At any rate, I'm glad for him and the team. Just wish, again, that he wouldn't wait so late with adapting. Almost waited too late again this year.

Finally. I guess he was taming the beast until it was that time of the year when it really mattered. ;) He is slowly working me over to the good side.

For real. I believe he's taken some advice from the "naysayers" and has started showing some passion and intensity. The team has clearly responded well.

Agree, but he's learning, and that's all you can ask.

Of course I never said it wasn't, but it has been a very slow process which caused valid doubt in fans. Especially because in the past he would seemingly learn from his mistakes, then 2 games later fall back into the same old habits. Matter of fact I recall you saying and I'm paraphrasing here, "he might turn out to be a great coach, but Tennessee isn't the place for a coach that is trying to find his way" We all had doubts and for very good reason, anyone who says they didn't is lying. That being said I'm glad he seems to be figuring it out and not falling back into old habits. The players seem to have developed a trust in him, and equally as important he has developed trust in them.

Amazing only a few weeks ago many were discussing who the next coach might or should be. Even started a petition I hear, or how many games CCM needed to win in the tourney. Now some of those same ppl are probably afraid Marquette may come calling. Be careful what you wish for.

Marquette going after Howland. Cuonzo could be padding his resume, someone may come calling. It would suck but can't blame him if he leaves.

Why Not? we gave him his First really big D1 coaching chance in a power conference...if you're saying that bc the fans were fed up after 2 3/4 years of boring inconsistent BBall, then what type of person is he really. Now if it's Purdue, I don't blame him, since that is his Alma Mater, but if it is a team like Marquette, then hek yeah I will blame him. He is finally starting to win the naysayers, myself included, over with his passion and the teams play. Why leave now when it looks like he will have everyone behind him finally.

If this team keeps this kinda play up, I seriously think they can make it to the final 4...and who knows what happens after that. There have been some teams with double digit loses to win it all. NC State with Jimmy V as coach and Villanova come to mind for me.

You can't tell me someone didn't get in his ear about his sideline demeanor. And that's no criticism on him. I LOVE the passion he's showing

lol! Are some of you not aware that everyone has different personalities? There isn't a damn soul who said a damn word to Cuonzo about his demeanor. Some of you all kill me with this trying to dictate what a person's personality should be like and how that equates to success. Give me a freakin break.

This ONE post sums up why he would want to leave. :loco: He deserves better than this fickle, dumber than dirt fan base. Hey, I know let's start a petition........................... :clapping:

This picture reminds me of how CCM was as a player. He was definitely more outward with his emotion than he has been as a coach on the whole, which leads me to this point.

I wonder if he has purposely held back his emotion to this point? I wonder if he thought that in order to be taken seriously by his peers as a young, African-American coach with little experience, that he had to toe the line from a coaching etiquette perspective. The rah-rah, outgoing expression of emotion is definitely the exception in the coaching profession, which is not to say it doesn't fit some coaches, but having success sells your abilities first and foremost. Being the emotional and charismatic personality is overlooked, and in some cases embraced, when it is accompanied by success.

In contrast, Dooley was fairly emotional and charismatic on the sideline as well, but he was generally considered a d!ck off the field, and his record was awful, so his outward emotion and charisma wasn't well-received, and regarded by many as ignorant and childish.

He always is like that...the camera just doesn't catch it all the time

Please post links if you have them. I must have missed it even though I have been watching for it. Thanks. Would love to know that my observations are wrong.

IMO if the Zo that showed the passion I saw at half time of the Mercer game had been present for 3 seasons we would have seen the UT fan base embrace him and never consider bringing back a disgraced former HC. The primary term used by most of the fan base and even some in the media for the program and his style of play was "boring".

He doesn't need to be the salesman Pearl is. He can be the Zo that shows the fire and he will rule Rocky Top.

I don't have links all you have to do is watch him on the sidelines during games....See him in practice videos....listen to the players talk about him...etc etc

You can't fake toughness and hustle! Our players for the last year could not fully see Coaches vision and fully buy in. They have now and coach is becoming a better motivator in front of us!
I cannot remember a Vols team even under Pearl that played championship D the way we have been , I am extremely exited and proud of our players and coaching staff!

The best coach I ever had never showed emotion in the regular season (unless it was crawling my A$$ for some misplay, that may or may not have been my fault )

But man, when we got to the playoffs and finally to the state tournament his demeanor completely changed. He was a master motivator...he handed out "that a boys" like never before, jumped around and made a fool of himself.

And you know what? We would have jumped through a brick wall just get him to show that emotion. He brought out the best in us, just by making us strive for a pat on the back and a high five. Have to wonder if CCM is not somewhat of the same mind.

IMO Cuonzo's demeanor allows his team to keep from getting too high or low on themselves. It's a valuable trait for a coach and I really think it got us to where we are now. He can allow himself a little extra now because of where we are and any loss means the season is over. His players love him and that says a lot to me

UConn game his first year. He's not chest bumping people or anything but it's hard to argue there's no passion there.

from Stokes

"I'm very aware of the criticism Coach Martin has had," Stokes said. "You know, genuine coaches don't get a lot of credit. I've heard fans get mad at him for not getting technical fouls. That's crazy. …

"He teaches us about things off the court that don't even apply to basketball. I'm mature enough to understand that he has our best interests at heart."
