The Daily Dribble: Kentucky

Despite a big day from its bash brothers, Tennessee fell short to Kentucky and its twin brothers by a 74-66 score. Vol bruisers Jarnell Stokes and Jeronne Maymon combined for 32 points and 20 rebounds, but the 40 combined points (27 in the second half) from Kentucky’s Andrew and Aaron Harrison proved too much for the Vols to overcome. Along … Continue reading

The Daily Dribble: Auburn

A win is a win. That’s the best way to describe Tennessee’s 78-67 victory against the Auburn Tigers on Wednesday night. And though it wasn’t glamourous, it beats the hell outta losing on a last-second 3-pointer. Jordan McRae dropped 21 points, and Jarnell Stokes notched his eighth double-double of the season with 14 points and 14 rebounds as Tennessee shot … Continue reading

Vanderbilt, or Vanderbroke?

Former Vanderbilt Head Coach James Franklin is going home. Franklin accepted the head coaching position at Penn State University late last week, effectively removing the thorn that he’d become from Tennessee’s proverbial side. Franklin takes with him a 2-1 record against the Vols, including back-to-back wins in 2012’s 41-18 beat down and last season’s 14-10 last second victory. This marked … Continue reading

The Daily Dribble: Texas A&M

Following the loss to Texas A&M Saturday, the air was thick with disbelief and anger. A cloud of angst hovered around Thompson-Boling arena, only content to dissipate with the exodus of the pissed-off patrons. But fans shouldn’t have been surprised following the Vols crumpling up like yesterday’s aluminum foil. No, the collapse wasn’t sudden nor shocking; it didn’t just pop … Continue reading

TDD: LSWHO

Tennessee kicked off its conference schedule with a 68-50 thumping of LSU in Baton Rouge. The Vols’ starting guards, Antonio Barton and Jordan McRae, combined for 33 points. They shot 11-17 from the field, including 7-10 from 3-point range, and spurred the Big Orange offense, especially in the first half. With 7 1/2 minutes left in the first period, Tennessee … Continue reading

TDD: Morehead State

On the eve of Christmas Eve, following a two-game losing streak, Tennessee bounced back and rode strong performances from Josh Richardson and Derek Reese to a 82-67 victory over Morehead State. A win is a win, yes, but Tennessee could have and likely should have won this game by 20 points or more as The Eagles just aren’t very good … Continue reading

TDD: N.C. State

Humpday was a rough day for Vol fans. The Tennessee football team, though it signed three of its four JUCO commitments, lost 4-star DE and likely immediate starter Davonte Lambert to Auburn, continuing the trend of swings and misses on the recruiting trail against the Tigers. Then the Tennessee basketball team, though it battled back, lost to N.C. State 65-58, … Continue reading

TDD: Wichita State

Tennessee traveled to Kansas Saturday to take on the No. 12 ranked Wichita State Shockers in a game that had a tournament feel. And, in true tournament style, the tougher team won the game as Wichita State gutted out the 70-61 win. A Tougher Breed, indeed. THE BAD Tennessee’s Shooting The three most efficient shots in basketball are free throws, … Continue reading
