Tennessee quarterback commit throws five TDs before halftime

Tennessee quarterback commitment Michael Penix, Jr. had a big night on Friday. A really big night.

In Tampa Bay Tech’s preseason drubbing of Bradon, Penix finished 11-15 for 151 yards and threw five touchdowns, all before sitting out the second half.

His longest scoring play was a 40-yard strike to Isaiah Stevens in the second quarter.

But it wasn’t just his arm. Penix also made plays with his legs as he twice scrambled for first downs.

Tampa Bay Tech begins its regular season at home next week in what should be one of the better games this season, according to Rodney Page of the Tampa Bay Times. In that matchup, “Penix will clearly be the player to stop,” he wrote.

Measuring 6-foot-2, 177 pounds, Penix is rated 4-stars by Rivals.com and his considered the No. 12 pro-style quarterback in the country. He committed to the Vols on April 22nd.
