Lady Vols earn No. 8 national seed in NCAA Tournament

The Lady Vols softball team earned the No. 8 national seed in the 2015 NCAA Tournament. As announced on Sunday night, Tennessee will host the Knoxville regional from May 15-17, which includes Longwood, Virginia Tech and Utah.

A total of 12 SEC teams received bids to the tournament, including five of the top eight seeds.

The format is double elimination, with Tennessee facing Longwood at 6 p.m. on Friday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium. Friday’s winners will square off at 2 p.m on Saturday

The Lady Vols are 42-14 overall, 15-9 in the SEC, and ranked No. 11 by USA Today/NFCA Coaches poll.

Friday, May 15
3:30 p.m. – Game 1 Virginia Tech (H) vs. Utah
6:00 p.m. – Game 2 Tennessee (H) vs. Longwood

Saturday, May 16
2:00 p.m. – Game 3 (winner game 1 vs winner game 2)
4:30 p.m. – Game 4 (loser game 1 vs loser game 2)
7:00 p.m. – Game 5 (loser game 3 vs winner game 4)

Sunday, May 17
2:00 p.m. – Game 6 (winner game 3 vs winner game 5)
4:30 p.m. – Game 7 (if necessary)

  1. This is far beyond what was expected. TN was projected as #8 in the SEC in the preseason. Well done!
