| Downtown Grill and Brewery is definitely the bee's knees. Great food and decent drink selection. As a student, I still avoid the strip unless I am looking to just get inappropriately drunk and dance on gross people. In which case Rumourz is the place to be. |

| [QUOTE=vol_in_il;6641372][QUOTE=BigAl;6641285]I used to go to the strip a lot in the late '80s and early '90s. There was Ruby's, O'Charley's, Ivy's, Hawkeye's Corner, The Library, OCI, The Last Lap, Quote:
same here, would rotate to watch Tall Paul play and one other you left off was the Annex
| Tall Paul was the best. I am sure we must have crossed paths since we went to all of the same places! I was there from '85 to '90. Does anyone remember when the Campus Inn had live bands before the games? That place was always rockin.

The issue that BWW had was that the chain is requiring all of its franchises to upgrade to a certain model, and the footprint that the location sat on could not support what needed to be done without completely tearing it down and starting over, and the landlord was unable to put that together.
The building itself has some serious issues and will likely have to be demolished before a new tenant builds there. | This is what I figured. |

| Seriously. There is just no tradition anymore. Back in the day, Hawkeye's, OCI, Longhorn, The Lap, The library, Gryphons...hell, even O'Charley's.
They were all fun on any given evening depending on what kind of fun you wanted to have.
Of course, back in those days, there wasn't anything in Market Square except a Subway that closed at 5PM and the legendary Mercury Theater. We used to eat shrooms and hang out with the homeless people who always built fires in the 55 gallon metal drums that the city used for garbage cans.
I think it is a good trade off in the end because I am really happy now when I go down to Market Square. I can take my kids ice skating and point out the various buildings that used to be abandoned that we would sleep in when we were to drunk to drive home that now house trendy furniture stores or hair salons. |

Life was good!.............from what I remember | Yup, I remember The Place....and yeah, the Roman Room for food. Vol Burger, turkey and smoked cheddar on long white.
How about the Tunnel/Yosemite Sam's? The house band was called Fatback, went on to become Russell Smith and the Amazing Rhythm Aces (Third Rate Romance went top 40). Man, there's dirt under the pyramids younger than me......Condredge Holloway was the starting QB my freshman year. |
