Good afternoon. 5 Boston based gentlemen will be heading down to Knoxville for the Vols/Georgia game. This will be our 6th year attending an SEC game. We've hit (in order) Ole Miss, South Carolina, Texas A&M, LSU, and Alabama. Throw in a trip to California/Vegas to see UCLA/Stanford last year. So we've experienced college football tailgating at it's finest.

But we're ready to head back to the SEC, and looking forward to take in all that Knoxville has to offer.

I've been researching tailgate options, and it seems somewhat limited in terms of what is available. There is the Tailgate Tennessee option, however that appears to be sold out. What other options exist?

We'll have a car or SUV, so we could pay for a spot somewhere and mingle with the crowd.

We could pay to attend a tailgate. Are there options for this?

We could just hit bars close to the stadium, if that is an option?

Thanks for your assistance. GO VOLS!!!

3 areas with bars near the stadium.

1). A mile plus to the north and east is downtown. Market Square, the Old City, Gay Street. It's a mix of families, football fans, hipsters, and homeless.

2). A few hundred yards south of the stadium (across Neyland Drive) and a half mile or so east is Calhoun's on the River with the Vol Navy parked nearby and the river walk (just an elongated city park) meandering thru. Ruth's Chris restaurant is at the far east end of the activity along the river. At Calhoun's there is decently priced parking ($40 +/-) but you need to be there at the crack of dawn to get a spot before they're gone. Ruth's also sells parking spots and you get a credit in the restaurant for the cost.

3). About a mile to the west and a block or two north of the stadium is the Strip. It's mainly traditional retail with a few bars and restaurants. It has a bigger student population and the usual fast food places.

The biggest tailgates are immediately west of the stadium. Hundreds of them... many friendly folks there having "private" food and drinks set up under tents.

Parking passes for the Georgia game will be a few hundred bucks and get cheaper the farther they are from the stadium. 11th Street, Ag Campus, G-5, G-10, etc. I think that "40" is the big lot just west of the Strip, about a 2 mile walk, but easy access to I-40.

If Game Day or the SEC Network broadcast a Saturday morning TV show, they'll be on the top of the hill immediately north of the stadium. This area is the heart of the original classroom buildings. Frats and student housing generally spreads westward from the stadium, but south of The Strip.

Church Street United Methodist Church has a good parking set-up too. It's east of the stadium and south of downtown. About $50 a spot iirc. It's also adjacent to the World's Fair Park.

The Cumberland Avenue Strip area is the best place to find a parking spot for sale if not buying a parking pass in advance. Get there 5 or 6 hours before kick-off and you'll find many options.

Next to The Strip there's a big parking garage that belongs to Children's Hospital that sells spots for about $20. Leaving quickly afterwards is not likely though. It's west of the hospital around 23rd Street, a block north of Cumberland Avenue (AKA "the Strip").

There's also $10-$15 parking at the city owned Civic Coliseum/Auditorium parking garage with a $5-$10 round trip shuttle. It's east of downtown, about a 2 mile walk to the stadium.
