I went out looking for it Friday into Saturday....I didn't notice it. I attributed it to trees/clouds/light pollution.
Apparently it shows up better on a camera -- I tried that this morning (index was supposed to be 9 between
5 am and sunrise) -- I still didn't see anything.
We've tried two straight nights to see the aurora. I suspect there is too much light pollution on every horizon. The places I would take my telescope 20 years ago to view the sky now have significant light pollution too.
It is suggested to look north for the best chance to see the lights, but north here is the worst direction for light pollution. I think we are going to miss seeing the whole thing.
Now late on the 11th, they boosted their forecast to 9.00 for 09-12 UT on May 12 (which was 0500-0800 Eastern), but sunrise was at 6:30.
The maximum was 9.00 the previous night.
Right now the maximum for tonight is 6.67 from 03-09 UT (which is 11 pm - 5 am). They could change it on short notice.
