Migrants 'held hostage' aboard Italian coastguard ship begin hunger strike in protest at not being allowed to disembark
Italy has been accused of holding 150 migrants 'hostage' on a coastguard ship 'as a way of blackmailing Europe'.

Many of those stranded aboard the vessel - the Diciotti - for a ninth day, began a hunger strike today.
Their reaction is out of frustration that Italy continues to refuse to let them disembark in Sicily unless fellow European Union nations first pledge to take them, authorities said, in the latest standoff provoked by Italy's anti-migrant interior minister.

But Interior Minister Matteo Salvini refused to bow to pressure to accept the migrants, and responded to their threatened hunger strike via Twitter that they can 'do whatever they believe.

Germany migrants: Protesters face off in Chemnitz
Several people have been injured as police in the east German city of Chemnitz try to keep apart rival protests over a murder on Sunday.

Far-right activists gathered in the centre for a second day as a Syrian and an Iraqi remained under arrest on suspicion of Sunday's deadly stabbing.

Anti-Nazi activists rallied just metres away, accusing the far right of using the death for political ends.
Injuries were caused when protesters on both sides threw objects, police say.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has warned that "vigilante justice" will not be tolerated.

It is unclear what triggered a fight which reportedly preceded the stabbing, at about 03:15 (01:15 GMT) on Sunday, on the sidelines of a street festival, which has now been cancelled.

The victim, a carpenter aged 35, was mortally wounded and died in hospital.

Two other German men with him, aged 33 and 38, were seriously hurt, police say.

The Syrian detainee is 23 and the Iraqi 22.

A boat carrying young migrants has landed on a beach in southern Spain, catching holidaymakers by surprise in the second such incident in two days.
Video footage shows the boat approaching the shore and at least two dozen people jumping off into the shallows before running across the sand.
The migrants, seemingly all young men, dash past beach-goers on their towels as they try to make it off the sands before being caught by authorities.

Czech Prime Minister: ‘Illegal Immigration Is a Threat to European Civilisation’

Czech prime minister Andrej Babiš has condemned the past approach of Merkel’s Germany and the European Union to illegal immigration, branding it a “threat to European civilisation”.
Andrej Babiš, a Slovak-origin populist and billionaire tycoon sometimes described as the ‘Czech Trump’, told national television: “We do not want to live here in Africa or the Middle East. We have to stop [immigration from these places].”

Stockholm (AFP) – The anti-immigration far-right is expected to soar in Sweden’s September 9 general election, capitalising on voter discontent as Swedes punish traditional parties over immigration, integration and health care.


Prime Minister Stefan Lofven’s Social Democrats, who have dominated Swedish politics since the 1930s, will remain the biggest party in the country but likely with a record low score, polls suggest.

The far-right Sweden Democrats (SD) are heading to make the most gains and come in a close second, followed by the conservative Moderates.

Hate preacher Anjem Choudary to be freed from jail despite remaining 'genuinely dangerous'

Anjem Choudary, the notorious Islamist hate preacher, will be released from jail next month despite a chilling warning from the justice minister that he remained “genuinely dangerous”.

Choudary, 51, is due to be freed within weeks after serving half of a five-and-a-half-year prison sentence for encouraging Muslims to join Islamic State.

The Government admitted on Tuesday it was powerless to prevent Choudary from being released on licence. Rory Stewart, the prisons minister, said that the preacher was “a deeply pernicious, destabilising influence”.

Mr Stewart, in an interview, added: “He is... somebody who is a genuinely dangerous person. We will be watching him very carefully.”

Choudary was leader of the proscribed terrorist group al-Muhajiroun, whose followers included Khuram Butt, part of the London Bridge terror cell who murdered eight innocent bystanders in June last year.

Other disciples include Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale, the killers of Fusilier Lee Rigby, murdered outside his barracks in south London in 2013.

One Convicted Terrorist Released onto Britain’s Streets Every Week

A convicted terrorist is released from prison onto the streets of Britain every week, government figures show, as next month sees the release of convicted hate preacher and Islamic State recruiter Anjem Choudary.

Between March 2017 and March 2018, 46 convicts imprisoned for terror offences were released from jail, with at least 22 of Choudary’s supporters being released since the September 11th, 2001, terror attacks, with another five up for parole in the next year, according to the Sunday Telegraph.


Choudary, imprisoned in August 2016 after being convicted of encouraging Muslims to support Islamic State in a series of YouTube videos, was the leader of the terror group al-Muhajiroun, now proscribed in the United Kingdom.

The convicted hate preacher is said to be linked to 15 terror plots dating back 20 years, and is believed to be linked to hundreds of jihadists who travelled to Syria to fight with Islamist groups.

Acolytes of and those with connections to Choudary and his banned terror group have committed terror attacks in the UK, including the ringleader of the June 2017 London Bridge vehicular attack Khuram Butt. Butt was also reported to have attended a protest in support of the murderers of Fusilier Lee Rigby, organised by Choudary.

A court in the Netherlands has admitted to giving a 38-year-old migrant who raped a disabled woman a light sentence so he would avoid deportation.

Afghan asylum seeker Zaman S., 38, was found guilty for raping an 18-year-old woman with a mental impairment but was given a prison sentence of less than two years, Telegraaf reports.

The Afghan raped the teen in 2016 in a shop where he was working. The girl came to purchase a bag and was told to wait until the shop was empty. She was then lured into a warehouse area where the Afghan forced her into oral sex and then raped her.

The prosecutor demanded the migrant receive 24 months in prison, but he received 20 months instead, with the court later admitting that the lighter sentence was handed out so that the Afghan would not risk losing his residency permit in the Netherlands. The judge said that is was “not the intention” that the punishment led to “far-reaching immigration consequences” for the rapist.

France Could See Record Asylum Claims, Three-Quarters of Migrants Likely to Stay

Approximately three-quarters of the asylum seekers in France face little chance of deportation as the country is expected to have received a record number of asylum cases this year.

France could see as many as 130,000 asylum cases heard in 2018 according to new figures which would top last year’s record number of applications that stood at 100,000, Le Figaro reports.

Newly released French Senate reports have claimed that most asylum seekers, up to 75 percent, do not face deportation and it is almost certain they will stay in the country.

The new reports represent a massive challenge for incoming Interior Minister Christophe Castaner who was appointed earlier this week following the resignation of Gerard Collomb.

A number of illegal migrants coming into France have used French overseas territories like French Guiana in South America and Mayotte in the Indian Ocean as entry points to claim asylum.
