Fortnite Battle Royale

Game is no joke. I haven’t played a shooter since Halo. Map is huge. First time in I didn’t find a gun and died in the storm.

Yeah the game will take some getting used to. I recommend starting out in somewhat remote areas while you learn basic controls, then once you have those down, go to high population areas to practice building and fighting to get better.

Good luck, let us know how things go on a switch.

50 v 50 is my favorite so far. I had 5 eliminations in one game yesterday with the shotgun. Had the sniper with thermal a couple of times. That is fun....

Got my first solo win the other day, and just got my first squad win with randoms earlier. Still getting used to building, been playing about 2 or 3 weeks. If I get rushed then I am dead.

I still suck, but have 2 solo and 9 squad wins. Build fights just suck, I can’t get the hang of it. I am an old guy so that’s probably why lol

Yes. I’m good with a ramp or two and some walls, I struggle building up and then changing directions and going higher up

If you want to change direction, just get in the habit of building a wall on your ramp in the direction you want your next ramp to go in. That's the quickeat and easiest way to change direction when you're up in a base.

Thought this was a cool shot.

Loved 50 on 50.
20 on 20 was enjoyable but a lot of running
New 8’s is practically the same as squads. Meh.

50 on 50 rocks because you end up running into big, movie-like battles of a hundred people with chaos and huge forts everywhere. It feels more like a war than some kind of covert guerrilla action.

Evidently Sony is "working on a solution" for the whole cross play issue. Let's hope so because this looks really bad on Sony. I personally do not care about this but evidently a lot of gamers do.

Sony offers hope on PS4 console cross-play • Eurogamer.net

Sony has commented on the thorny issue of PlayStation cross-play, suggesting it's working on a solution.

At the Gamelab conference in Spain today, Shawn Layden, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment America and chairman of SIE Worldwide Studios, and PS4 system architect Mark Cerny delivered a presentation about the legacy of PlayStation. At the end of the talk, Eurogamer reporter Robert Purchese put the cross-play issue to Layden. Here's what he said:

"I thought it was fascinating you talking about PlayStation 3 flying too close to the sun - your Icarus moment you called it, and then PlayStation 4 coming back to be more back to basics, to be more about the players. But there seems to be an issue at the moment, that Sony isn't listening to its players - or doesn't seem to be - and that's cross-play, Fortnite particularly. And I wondered if there were any plans to open it up? It seems to be Sony's not listening."

Layden replied by saying he could offer "one short statement". Here it is:

"We're hearing it. We're looking at a lot of the possibilities. You can imagine that the circumstances around that affect a lot more than just one game. I'm confident we'll get to a solution which will be understood and accepted by our gaming community, while at the same time supporting our business."

Layden's response is the first official comment from Sony on the cross-play issue since it issued a statement to press following the release of Fortnite on Nintendo Switch, and the revelation that Nintendo Switch users are blocked from playing Fortnite if trying to log in using an account which has ever played Fortnite on PS4.

It means that even if you've only played Fortnite once on PS4, and play the majority of your Fortnite on PC or mobile (these platforms are compatible), you will still be blocked from using your account on Switch. Your only option is to create a new account to play.

At the time, Sony issued a statement that failed to calm increasing anger over the situation.

"We're always open to hearing what the PlayStation community is interested in to enhance their gaming experience. Fortnite is already a huge hit with PS4 fans, offering a true free-to-play experience so gamers can jump in and play online," Sony said

"With 79 million PS4s sold around the world and more than 80 million monthly active users on PlayStation Network, we've built a huge community of gamers who can play together on Fortnite and all online titles. We also offer Fortnite cross-play support with PC, Mac, iOS, and Android devices, expanding the opportunity for Fortnite fans on PS4 to play with even more gamers on other platforms."

Later in June, John Smedley, ex-boss of Planetside 2 and H1Z1 developer Daybreak Game Company, which changed its name from Sony Online Entertainment in 2015, tweeted to say Sony's controversial policy comes down to money.

"... when I was at Sony, the stated reason internally for this was money. They didn't like someone buying something on an Xbox and it being used on a Playstation. Simple as that. Dumb reason, but there it is."

In the context of Fortnite, this would mean Sony doesn't like the idea of a player on Xbox buying a character skin via Xbox Live (and in the process handing Microsoft a 30 per cent cut of the revenue), then logging in to the PS4 version and being able to use that same skin on their persistent, cross-platform character when playing the game on Sony's console.

Sony has come under fire for its cross-platform console policy ever since - so this glimmer of hope from Layden offers some hope things may change in the future. It certainly sounds like Sony has been thinking about how to make console cross-play work. Perhaps an olive branch has been offered behind the scenes?

Yea don't understand the gripe of not being able to login to a switch from a ps4 after playing on ps4. Sure you get all the skin and goodies but it's going to take 3 to 4 months of getting owned while getting use to the switch controls.

Not to mention the fact that the Switch version only runs at 30 fps as opposed to 60fps on everything else. That's a marked disadvantage.

Carrying over your account’s stats, purchases, and progress matters to a lot of people who use the season pass and want to unlock the final skin and reach level 80. You can also play with the pro controller, making it much easier. I had 8 kills my first game on Switch using my Xbox-linked Epic account, and I never get 8 kills lol

Also, being able to play it with friends on every platform besides PS4, unfortunately, is nice and to be able to play it on the go is and not having to pack up my Xbox and a monitor. It’s just convenient and consumer friendly to do this.

Question. How is this any different than say, buying a copy of Destiny 2 on PS4 and a copy on Xbox One and not being able to carry your assets over from one version to the other? No other game to my knowledge allows this. So why suddenly do gamers act like their somehow entitled to do this with Fortnite as if it's the norm?

I don’t believe it’s an entitlement, that makes it sound as if this is on the player end of things. Nintendo, Microsoft, Google, and Apple are all working together to allow cross play if the game developer/publisher is okay with it - Epic is and Activision, knowing Activision, probably isnt, or they haven’t expressed that they are.

We got stats carried over from some games like Destiny, Diablo 3, etc. when moving from last gen to current gen. I don’t see why anyone would be upset about making things more convenient for the players. They are the hand that feeds. There is cross play between Minecraft, Rocket League, etc. and there will likely be more games in the future that allow it. I figured Fortnite would be what made Sony blink.

One reason is because it already works and is simply a flip of a switch to turn it back on.

It used to be on. Sony made them turn it off.

We, as gamers, need to keep on this and get it changed. Gotta start somewhere.

I do not, as a console gamer, want to play against someone on pc. To many disadvantages to that.

I will say when I started playing this game (March this year) after coming from battlefield type FPS games(pc and console) I really didn't like it. Today I think it's probably one of if not the most fun shooters I've ever played.

What are all the advantages? Consoles (PS4, X1) have KB/M support. I don't think the gap is huge. Some PS4 players compete at a competitive level. It's possible.

Controllers get aim assist. KBM doesn't.

BTW, today's update has been garbage so far. All sorts of problems. Playground was retired shortly after launch due to problems. Matchmaking sucks right now. Tough day for the kids over there.

When a PS5 launches it will be obsolete the very first day compared to available pc parts. Pc runs faster. Better FPS. More configuration settings for keyboard and mouse. Mouse is quicker to put a crosshair on someone and more accurate.

Speaking of the aim assist. Can you turn that off in the ps4 settings?

I don't have to build my own PS5 or spend thousands on one.
