The more blue shirts we take this year, the fewer players we sign for the 2020 class. Why waste a scholarship on a marginal player rather than sign stud in 2020.

Because of the reason he said. This player is "marginal" until he turns into Patrick Willis and then everyone wonders why we didn't recruit him. Doesn't happen often, but likelihood is that this scholarship will go towards a similarly marginal player, just a year younger. Especially if they're being careful about 2020 as well and not hellbent to fill the class. Why save the scholly for a "maybe" next year if you kinda like the guy this year.

All of this is in jest as I haven't heard anything definitive one way or the other. Just another way to look at it.
