Computer specialists, recommend a new computer in this thread (A VN Classic)

I've used Toshiba laptops pretty much as long as I've had a computer and I've loved them. The performance, the build, etc. was top notch. My brief encounters with Dells and other popular machines left much to be desired.

It's now time to part ways with my Toshiba Portege R300 and get something a bit newer. Right now I'm basically deciding between a MacBook (will be running Windows on it) and another Toshiba (don't know which model yet). Want to keep it under $2000 and relatively light, with long battery life.

Anyone have advice?

is the choice so obvious if i am running windows on it? i heard there are some performance issues doing that.

i want to run windows. don't have the time or the patience to learn a new OS. that's why i am asking toshiba or macbook running xp.

if you are even slightly as intelligent as it should take to be a lawyer, learning osx will take approximately 1.5 minutes and you will never go back. Stick with the MacBook and don't be so concerned about running Windows.

fewer if any virus worries, operating system seems to have less hiccups in it than PCs. The operating system is also faster than a Windows system. There's a reason why video editors from news stations all the way up to major movie companies prefer the system over Windows. It's faster, more reliable (ie, won't crash), and will last longer. And finally, the MacBook has finally solved the problem Apple had with difficulty in upgrading. The MacBook is now essentially as easy to upgrade as any PC model.

and trust me, there is no difficulty in learning OS X system. Years ago, that would have been different. But it's been streamlined and made easier since the original 1999 model.

that's only because no one wants to waste their time designing a virus to affect 10% of the PC pop.

Grab a Dell or HP and be done with it. No reason to get a Mac just to run Windows

isn't that because it basically runs one continuous program and nothing is actually installed? (that's how my it guy at work described it)

HP's are absolute garbage. all the law students in my first year class (we got a huge HP discount through our law school) were trying to sell theirs off after the first year because they were so awful (crashed all the time, bulky as hell, slow!).
