Guys... I see it's a slow day on VolNation. Not sure this has been done before but how 'bout sharing a favorite sports quote. I'll start with one I heard recently...

After Michael Jordan had scored a play-off record 69 points - "I'll always remember this as the night Michael and I combined to score 70 points."

Also MJ:

I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.

You lollygag the ball around the infield. You lollygag your way down to first. You lollygag in and out of the dugout. You know what that makes you? Larry!

Lollygaggers!

Lollygaggers.

If you are willing to include quotes from great sports movies, there is a brief conversation in The Natural between Roy Hobbs and his once fiancée, Iris. Roy is lamenting the fact that, for 16 years, he has lived with the premise that he could have broken every record in the book. This segues into the following exchange:

Iris Gaines: You know, I believe we have two lives.

Roy Hobbs: How... what do you mean?

Iris Gaines: The life we learn with and the life we live with after that. With or without the records, they'll remember you. Think of all those young boys you've influenced; there are so many of them.

There is a lot of truth in Iris' comments regarding the psychological maturation process, i.e. the distinction between that portion of our lives that is lived before the adult personality that will characterize us has fully materialized and the period thereafter.

Although debatable as to whether he actually said this but when John McKay was asked about his team's execution he said, "I'm all for it."

And I told our players: you need to be more like a dog! We don't need a bunch of cats in here—"meeeooow!"—lookin' in the mirror. "I look gooooood, I got my extra bands on, I got my other shoes"—Be a dog! We don't need no meows, we don't need no cats. We need more dogs.
