Anyone had it? I just got back from it - yes, on Saturday. They had to cut a tooth out of my mouth. Gave me some gauze, a pat on the back and a prescription for Lortab (sp?) on the way out. I didn't fill it - yet. Mouth is still numb, but I don't feel any real discomfort. I just don't like pills for pain. Suck it up and be a man, or go get drugs? What say ye?

I think you will need it for the first 24 to 48 hours after the numbness wears off.

I had an infected upper left molar all the way in the back. So I went in for a root canal last year. But it was hard to get the files angles right to clean out. Then Doc says I have very little bone for the root of a tooth to set firmly in before then sinus cavity, and it was all deeply infected and "well, it's just rotten" so it was more than the root canal. Everyone's different, but after the shots wore off the pain went all around the left upper jaw and into my eye. Took the pill and went to sleep.

And you're gonna "be a man" eh? Heh heh heh chuckle snort.....

Depending on how many the oral surgeon prescribed you don't have to get the entire quantity filled. Get 48hrs worth. Also take 800mg ibuprofen 3-4 times a day for the first couple days assuming you have good functioning kidneys.

Ahhhh, a month ago, same here. Had a molar that they said was decayed deep into the tooth and maybe a root canal would be possible. I was passed around to 3 different dental specialists, and finally I just said to pull the tooth. Went to an oral surgeon, and they gave me an IV and added something that knocked me out cold. No pain afterwards... but I had the meds in case. It took 3 weeks to heal the gum area. Interesting process. I had to google the procedure to see what was involved. Glad they put me under.

Thanks to you and to everyone for the input. He just hit me with about a gallon of 'local' anesthetic. I did not fill the prescription for the pain Laid down for a short nap and my body woke up in Mempho, but my head woke up in Dantes' fourth ring of hell :) It's all good, but wifey just can't see why I don't want to eat, when all I taste is blood

I had two lower impacted wisdom teeth pulled when I was a teen and they put me to sleep to do it. The only pain I've had worse than that was a kidney stone.

I'm over being a man, I take drugs when needed.

Actually, some people can't handle hydrocodone because it upsets their stomach and they trow up. Others, have no problems with it. I doubt he wrote you enough for you to really develop a problem with it. I'm guessing 15-20 pills?

I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed in November. I took 2 of whatever pain pill they had prescribed the day of the surgery, and 1 the next day. I stopped after that so I didn't miss any more work.

All you guys getting root canals or molars pulled and not having, and I do mean, having to take the pain killers fill me with wonder.

I was impressed with the job they did on me when they pulled the molar. That tooth had 3 roots, and they used a chisel to break the tooth so it could be pulled in two pieces. I expected to be in pain for some time, but there was not to speak of. I did feel groggy for 3 days from the sedative used to knock me out. I was glad I was on vacation during this time, as I was a bit low on energy.

Youtube has some clips of that process... I think a good oral surgeon is key here to come out of it without pain.
