Phil knows he screwed the pooch Saturday night. You can see it in his eyes.

Listen up sports fans: We've all made mistakes. Phil has probably looked at that film at least half a dozen times and said to himself, "We were crushing them with Riggs, I could just kick myself."

Hey, no use doing that coach, we've all done an admirable job of doing it for you, so if you're rear is sore, that would pretty much explain it.

Now, what to do?

Things I pointed out after the FL game were.

Settle on a QB, establish the run first, use play-action and misdirection to open up the field after the run has been established.

Item # 1 has been done. Erik is our QB. Clausen fans, (OldVol, he's talking to you) get over it. Erik's our QB of the future and the future begins Saturday in Baton Rouge. (Rick, we love ya, but this is the decision. Be ready in case you're needed.)

Item # 2 - Book it: Phil will establish the run Saturday Night if it's there to be established. We're going to be facing a better defensive front than Florida's, but we have the line to move the ball if we stick with it. I don't think Phil will make the same mistake twice in a row. If we don't get it done on the ground it will be because LSU takes the run away, not because we take it away ourselves. I have to tell ya, I felt sorry for the big guy, he didn't look like he's slept a lot. He'll fix the game plan.

Item # 3 - The play calling. Who knows? To be quite honest, I'm ready for Randy to go back upstairs and let Phil have more hands on with the offense. He was good at it when he coached for Majors and I'd rather have Randy off the field.

My thoughts for the LSU game are: We will lose in a close one if we can't complete more than 50% of our passes. If we continue to overthrow, underthrow, miss the open receiver, throw into traffic, and drop balls we'll lose. If we can correct these mistakes we will win.

I believe we have a good chance to correct them with Ainge not looking over his shoulder. There has to be a huge mental obstacle when you're playing like he and Rick have been.

If we stay with the run they will have to give us something downfield. I believe we can run on anyone. Here's the killer though. Even when teams have given us good looks downfield, we have failed to take advantage of it.

If this continues we're 1/2 this time Sunday.

Honestly, I believe the reverse is true. Randy is no better or worse than Cutcliff. the constant in that equation is Phil. I'd prefer Phil let Randy CALL THE PLAYS than firewall his calls. That is what I believe is happening. IF that isn't the case, Randy needs to see a Psychiatrist for treatment of his multiple personality disorder.

When the games count (tough SEC opponents, we are extremely conservative) when they don't count as much (Cotton Bowl) we are more wide open. Methinks it's Phil, not Randy.

Gotta agree! :good: Vols need to establish the run. Riggs needs 125 plus yards and we need to complete at least 60% of the passes and put 21 points on the board and hold LSU to 17 maximum. This is a "MUST" win if the Vols are to get anywhere this season. If the Vols win Saturday, then concentrate on Ole Miss. UGA is the next "big obstacle" after LSU.

GO VOLS!!!!!!

Would someone please strike up the band. It's time for "ROCKY TOP!"

From what I understand, Randy has more to do with the play calls than people believe.

I believe it should fall on the head coach to call them. I also believe Phil would be better off to take more of the offense from Randy and allow him the luxury of spending more time with the QBs.

I don't believe Randy is cut out to do both.

Thats just my humble .02, but I believe it is what's happening on The Hill.

I couldn't agree with you more about his body language. I saw a tape of him yesterday speaking to reporters. He couldn't look them in the eyes, his hair was mussed up, his clothes disheveled, and I swear I still have been unable to decipher what he meant by all of his "blue bus" references when talking about the 2 QB system. Did anyone else see this?

The man has lost control. Was the little "control" he had befhorehand stripped of him by the boosters? Who knows. But something's gone.

We can easily solve all our problems if we just got some 10 and 12 foot tall receivers for Ainge to throw to.

I don't know who you were responding to, but since I started the thread I'd guess it had something to do with my comments. But, for the life of me, how could you draw the conclusions you came to and reference them in a manner that reflects that you're agreeing with me.

I didn't even hint that he's lost control, just sleep.

To the contrary, I think he had control and realized that it was a horrilbe plan that cost him a big win.

It happens.

We move on.

Good post OldVol! :good: Whoever took the ball out of Riggs' hands cost us. 2nd and 4 opens the game much more than 3rd and 9. Where the heck has our play-action passing game gone??? With Riggs ripping off 6-7 yards at a time, that becomes a huge advantage.

Also, our "vaunted" WR's need to learn how to get open vs. man coverage or we're in trouble. Establish the run and it all falls into place. UF couldn't stop it but LSU's defensive front is another story. Again, it all comes down to the "big uglies" up front and I believe they'll be ready.

GO VOLS and whip them tigers!!

could not agree more, he is trying to aim the ball instead of just throwing it. he has no confidence and will not get it if he is left out there to continue to make mistakes
