Putting the game away

I have to admit that I only watched the UT-USCe game a little bit between beers and hitting on women with naughty nurse outfits. That being said, with UT being up 21-0. Why does Cut and Fulmer go into conservative mode. I would love to put the game away early and continue to put up points and play to WIN rather than playing not to LOSE.
Same goes for the defense.

I don't think they went into conservative mode. They just couldn't do anything... incomplete pass after incomplete pass. There were too many 3 and outs. Maybe they could've run the ball more, but they got a lot of breaks and got it done when it counted most.

We have to develop a deep threat throwing the ball as the corners are coming up very tight on our wideouts and the little 5 yard passes were no longer working.

Ok cool. The few series that I saw looked like we ran the ball between the tackles 3 straight times. Again, I was a little buzzed up but that is what I remembered.

Define "conservative mode"

Is conservative mode running the ball? Our RBs barely saw the field in the second half. We were throwing the ball all over the place (too bad they were ALL incomplete). If anything, we were anything BUT conservative in the play calling.

Is "conservative mode" code for not getting anything done successfully? Because that definition might fit.

Keep in mind that Carolina realized our unwillingness to run late in the game. They have an excellent pass rush and finally started getting to Ainge late. Cut seems to have a reluctance to throw the deep ball if he thinks his QB might get popped...and for good reason...Ainge is quite fragile.

I agree with this totally. He gets happy feet. Also, the fact that he has only been sacked once before this game hurts us, IMO.

He hasn't seen pressure all year, now that it comes, he plays like crap. This does not bode well for us. If our 3 remaining SEC teams can mix up blitzes to get to Erik, it's gonna be a long day.

You didn't see the game . . . and then you criticize the playcalling.

We threw the ball 45 times. If anything, we needed to run it more.

The playcalling in the 2nd half really didn't change from the first half.

The only series where we went hyper conservative was when we stopped SC on 4th down and we got the ball at our own 4 yard line and correctly ran it 3 times and punted it out of there.
