| Inky Named Captain TFP... Quote:
Most of the Tennessee football team already thinks of Inky Johnson as a captain.
Now it's official.
Johnson -- the Vols' cornerback who suffered a career-ending spinal cord nerve injury last season -- will be one of the team's six captains against South Carolina on Saturday night.
"I think he exemplifies all the great things about coaching and playing college football," UT coach Phillip Fulmer said. "We're glad to have Inky represent us as a captain."
| Quote: "Inky has stayed very much a part of this football team," Fulmer said. "He's been to every meeting, every workout, every practice. He has been a great role model, been a great example for what our young people should be like as a student, as a worker, as a young man with tremendous pride in himself and pride in the program. "It just kind of hit me. I thought this would be a good time to honor him, in a game like this."
When asked if the NCAA would have a problem with a captain not on the official dress roster, Fulmer said "I may get forgiveness rather than permission." | Nice to read about something good going on... |

| A nice long 'Inky" chant would be nice, but I doubt it will happen. |

| I hate being the pessimist, but do you think Fulmer is reaching for feel good stories? |

If you hate it, then don't do it. I think you are reaching. |

I think you may be reaching to find fault with Fulmer. Don't read too much into it.
As the article says, Inky has been at every meeting, practice, work out etc... He deserves the honor. It is good that it is in the paper because most people wouldn't even notice if nothing was said. |

Don't want to make it seem like I'm a coldhearted bastid. But it speaks volumes when someone that isn't technically on the team is given a captaincy. This team has been starving for leadership since Casey Clausen left. |

| Well thats why I said I hate being the pessimist. Right after the Alabama loss? Why not before?
I know you're probably right, but timing is everything. |

| Thinking of him makes you feel dumb for making the coaching debate such a big deal. |

Nice story about Inky. I really hate what happened to that kid.

| it's reaching....i agree with OWH on this one. I don't see any alterior motives in doing this, just wanting the kid to be honored for what he means to him and the team. i see no problem with it.
