Current Vanderbilt coach Tim Corbin could be on the list along with Rick Honeycutt, a UT player in the 1970s and is the pitching coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers and veteran UT assistant and chief recruiter Larry Simcox, who received Sunday's news with a call from Delmonico.

Well, if we want somebody fiery like Pearl...how about that guy from the Mississippi Braves that went postal during his tirade in Chattanooga this weekend!

Honeycutt is a possibility. They may also make a run at Corbin from Vandy, though I don't think he would leave right now. Mike Bianco from Ole Miss is another option, but he could be a candidate at LSU (his alma mater).

Coastal Carolina caught my eye as a small school that made a big impact this year, but their coach, Gary Gilmore, is a Coastal Alum and might not be interested in moving

Closer to home, I would say Ray Smith of the Elizabethton Twins might be a good fit (5 league Championships and 6 Coach of the year awards). Paul Runge from the Danville Braves is another successful Appy league Coach, and what about ETSU's Tony Skole?

However, I think they need to make a serious run at one of the two Rice assistants Mike Taylor (a former Knoxville Blue Jay), or David Pierce. Rice is one of the most consistant and successful programs in the country, and we need some consistancy and success!

Maybe its somebody cool we don't even know about yet!

I'd rather have Delmonico still at the helm than Hamilton hiring Simcox. That would be the worst hire in my opinion.

In the 15 minutes of sports talk radio I listened to today, this was the topic they were discussing. From what I heard, Hamilton wants to hire outside the program (thank God).

I don't follow college baseball THAT much, so I don't know about a lot of the programs, but College of Charleston's coach is supposedly a target.

Vandy's coach was mentioned, but the question was also asked; why would he leave vandy for another in-state school after he has the top team in the state and one of the top teams in the country? The 2 things UT has going for them are the renovations to the stadium and a very supportive athletic department. I'm still not sold that he would leave Vandy unless UT offered him a substantially larger salary.

Rick Honeycutt is the other name I remember hearing. I would think a major league pitching coach whose stock is on the rise would look at a college coaching job as a step down. But he has said for years that he would love to be UT's coach in the future. And apparently it was in the works to have him replace Delmonico a few years ago when he was on the hot seat. So maybe there is still a real chance of landing him.

Like I said, I'm just basing this off of what I heard on the radio today, and I'm not that knowledgeable on college baseball, or even UT baseball anymore. But coaching changes always seem to make me want to try to get into the sport again.

WBIR.com has reported that Volquest's Brent Hubbs said Vanderbilt coach Tim Corbin, Virginia coach Brian O'Conner and UC-Irvine coach Dave Cerrano are all possible candidates. Cerrano was a pitching coach and recruiting coordinator for UT back in 1995.

Brian O'Conner is a nice choice even though I don't think there is a chance we'll get him.

I'm thinking Dave Cerrano is the leader. I don't think Vandy's coach will leave for UT, and considering Cerrano has had nice success at Irvine and coached here, he has to be the early leader. I don't know if UVA's would come here; he's got a pretty good thing going in Charlottesville.
