Urban waits until after the facts are out, and he gets a good lay of the land. He's been quoted as saying "I like to look into their eyes during big games to see if they are really on drugs, and I make my judgement after that. I just dont want to jump to any conclusions too soon."

I do. All the time. But I also enjoy pointing out that people who insinuate that Meyer is engaged in some sort of wholesale illegal recruiting conspiracy say such things, not with any factual justification, but solely because they are envious of his success. Meyer outrecruits UT, they reason, and must therefore cheat.

Actually, I was just reading an article as I waited for lunch about how the NCAA is about to ban text messaging recruits. The two reasons given were that it was not fair to the recruits because there is a charge associated with getting the messages and also that sometimes coaches (or even assistant coaches using the head coach's phone) would send out the same message to 100 kids.

A local high school kid said the concenr over the money was silly because the kids can pay $5 for unlimited messaging and, no matter how poor they may be, $5 a month during recruiting season, as you are choosing between scholarship offers worth tens of thousands of dollars, just isn't meaningful.

The second reason is probably accurately stated, but I guess I don't see the harm in it.

Oh, well, guess UM will have to come up with another way to reach the recruits. They are allowed to make unlimited emails and faxes still, accoridng to the story, so guess that's where its headed.

Dude, it was a freaking joke. I never honestly insinuated that Meyer cheats. I don't think he cheats. But I knew you'd piss all over yourself if I made the joke. And you have. But you've gotten too pissy over it. It was a JOKE ... a JOKE.

Have they made the change, or is it just a suggestion at this point?

It is like that, I agree. I'm not sure they made the rule to hold down UM, but because the high school kids are being somewhat stalked via text messages and have no control over it. It also costs 10c. per message, I assume. Then again, it only costs $10/mo. (give or take) for unlimited texts.

Trooper Taylor has quite a ways to go if he wants to live up to the deceitful recruiting tactics of one Urban F. Meyer.
