Thus, when playing Tennessee, if you are unable to get pressure on Erik Ainge, the offense, regardless of how good your secondary is, and really, regardless of how inexperienced the WR crew will be, you will be eaten up. Erik Ainge's worst games were the few where he had no time to make reads.
Our offensive line loses it's best player and a player who was really mediocre. I think with the losses along Cal's DL and UT's OL, the scenario in the trenches when UT has the ball will remain the same as 2006. No pressure on Ainge. |
our dline got zero pressure on pretty much everyone last season. it can't get worse. Our best 2 of the front seven departed (not best 3). I think ainge will have time unless we blitz. Was the victory ainge picking us apart or your WRs running over us? I'd lean towards the latter. Our offense will be vastly improved. Baring longshore throwing 4 ints, the game will be much closer.

| Barring 4 int's. That's a big statement.
Barring 17 points, the game would have been much closer. |

Your defense blitzed quite a bit against Tennessee, and it didn't work. Also, only 1 *passing* TD was our WR breaking a tackle. The 2nd one to Meachem was the only one where Meachem had the ball and broke out of SQT's tackle.
Our first TD was our long drive with the TD pass to Brown who barely made it to the goal line (12 yard pass, I believe).
Our second TD, Thompson went for the DP, but didn't arrive in time and once Meachem had the ball, he was untouched.
Swain's TD was a deep seam, untouched.

That reminds me of something, Zona. Didn't Hardesty go the distance """""untouched?""""......? Ok. Maybe he didn't. Maybe atleast 1 or 2 Cal players touched him.

SEC ARROGANCE DOMINATES COLLEGE FOOTBALL Outside the South, Fans are fed up!
Heaven forbid any question the supremacy of the SEC. To do so you open yourself up to numerous vicious attacks from the vanguard of the SEC. Recent developments though (aside from Florida stealing the National Championship from Boise State) point to a different reality. The SEC is weak, and their ability to dominate on the decline.
Last year there were numerous examples of the SEC not being able to compete with other major conferences. Chiefly among them was the thrashing Arkansas received from USC. While Cal did go into Tennessee and lose, they kept it respectable, 35-18. Many in the college football world outside the south speculate that had Tennessee not stolen many of Cal’s signals, Cal would have prevailed.
Perhaps we cannot blame out southern brethren. For from the time of birth they are brought up to believe they are a cut above all other conferences. Again, numerous examples have shown without any doubt, this is not true.
Said one frustrated USC fan, “any time you turn on the TV all you hear is how great the SEC is, and how they dominate the college football world. I guess wining several National Championships slipped by their collective conscience.”
It remains to be seen if this traditionally viewed stereotype can be broken. One thing is sure, Cal plays Tennessee on Sept 1 to open the season for both schools. With early indications pointing to a Cal victory, this perception of SEC dominance may soon come to an end. | Gee that’s funny. It seems as though every time I turn on my TV I'm getting Big10, PAC10 and ACC propaganda shoved down my throat. ESPN/ABC seems to cater to fans from those conferences. If it weren't for "good ole CBS" we would all be converted Big10 fans until 7:00 pm eastern.
The accusation of stealing signals in a nonconferece football game is laughable. What signals were those? "The deer caught in the headlight" signals from Longshore or the "I got tackled in the backfield again" signal from Lynch and Forsett. |

or maybe it was the "Hardesty is down" signal or maybe it was "Leave Swain open up the hash" signal |

| Note to those outside the south who are whining about having to hear the SEC is the best conference: Poll the Buckeyes football team as to what their opinion is of the SEC now... |
