The programs' history is the only basis of comparison that is viable at this point, and on every compared facet Cal is found lacking.
I wish we had a smiley representative of talking out of ones keaster. |

I wish we had a smiley representative of talking out of ones keaster. | frankly i don't think the last 40 years are particurally relavant to sept's game. last year perhaps, but not the 100 years prior. |

Thankfully the game on Sept 1st won't be decided on tradition and history. |

Either you base it on a comparison of the overall history of the two programs, you base it on the most recent head to head encounter, or you base it on things like strength of schedule or recent recruiting successes.
However, our left coast friend doesn't wish to recognize any of these facts. So then, what criteria are we to use? |

As for recruiting, somewhere in this thread is buried my recruiting analysis the last 4 years and it clearly shows the gap in recruiting (particurally on a per star basis) between Cal and Tenn isn't what most vol fans think it is.
Strength of schedule is in the eye of the beholder. By most analysis I have seen cal has ranked in the top 10 strength of schedule virtually every season. It should be noted that pac-10 schools play 9 conference games compared to 8 for SEC schools which affects this ranking. If you go by the theory that any team outside of the SEC doesn't play anyone worth anything than obviously than there is no reason to have the strength of schedule conversation.
I think that recent success of the program is FAR more relavant than the history or tradition of the two programs. Frankly history or tradition don't win football games, players and coaches do. |
